New Astra VXR gets 0-62mph time

The GF loves the old Astra VXR and has wanted a new one for years, despite me pleading with her not to go near one. Now I'll need to pray she doesn't like this one too :(

Ah, VXRs are ok.

There fast and comfy. That's it really lol :p

They used to have "cheap" to add to that list, but no more.

Just from having a quick look around, it appears that the outgoing Astra VXR was £18995, the 2012 Astra VXR is £27000. How can they justify that kind of price hike?

That's well into Golf GTI territory!

I was offered an 18 month old Golf GTi for £27k, let alone a new one £25k! It did have DSG, Leather and Nav though.

Didn't all hot hatches (Focus ST, Golf GTi, Honda Civic Type R etc....) use to be somewhere between £17k-£20k and now it's £23k-£26k.

As far as I was aware, even the old VXR when specced up to a decent level was getting close to £30k.

Yeah it's very good over bumps and the English roads.

Only downside for me is that the seat doesn't go back far enough and can hurt my right knee after a bit of town driving. Motorway is fine though, just stick cruise control on and chill out.

Edit: also:

That was on country run on NSL roads. No hooning though. Still very good though.

Well that's certainly a great deal cheaper than the stealer was telling my GF when she specced up one.

There will be a discount from list price within a few months of its release. I personally think it looks pretty decent and will keep an eye on what the price does over the next few years.

Lucky you didn't go for it then, considering a Golf GTI with DSG, leather and Nav is only £29k brand new.

Considering the Golf GTI starts at £25.6k for the 6sp Manual, paying £27k for an Vauxhall Astra would make me vomit.

The Golf GTI ED35 is £27.9k starting price, which is only some 40bhp down on the Astra, is likely to be better to drive.

They did, with the Honda Civics', Astra VXR, Focus ST etc being the £17-21k ones, the Golf GTI being the £23-25k and the Audi S3, BMW 130i being the £28k+ ones.

A Vauxhall Astra for £27k with no options is insane, unless they've radically improved the interior/exterior quality and drive. Even then... :/

Heard some clios on track which sounded like jets, I couldn't work out what caused it - there seemed to be no exhaust noise, just 'jet' noise.

That new astra looks great. I will happily admit I dislike vauxhalls in general, the style, the quality, the drive - nothing about them I like. That one looks the business though, and with acceleration to boot.

I wonder what it's like in the corners, and how it copes with weight transition.

slick tyres cause that "jet" ripping noise.

Are we to assume then that Vauxhall gave up making it drive as nicely as a Golf or handle like a Focus and decided to just go POWA!!!"!"!""$$$ instead?

Yes, BHP sells!

Depends on which vxr we're talking about.

The Astras and Vectras/Insignias have decent seats. The same cant be said about the Corsa's seats... They're not good for long journeys.
