CPU Upgrade

Socket 775 are mostly DDR2. That socket went EOL 2009 or so, so I cant imagine many manufacturers implementing expensive DDR3 (at the time) on an old socket. The dell is most likely DDR2.
Honestly forgetting about the money spent on the QX, on the bay 2x 1gb ddr2 is selling for about £12.

As to the 560 case couldn't say. Dell used to use their own proprietry motherboards which had their own custom form factor. Whether they still did this at the time you bought yours I don't know.

edit: the manual may say.

The memory is DDR3

Memory Summary Reported by BIOS
Memory Type DDR3

Thanks for your reply, I will just keep the CPU and I'll forget about buying RAM. I won't spend any more money on this system.

And how do I know which new board fits inside this Dell 560 case.

Should I get ASUS Silent Square EVO Air Cooler Fan?

You can't fit any other boards in that case.

You may aswell buy more ram as its only £25 and you will be able to use DDR3 in a new machine.

Aye it is. I should learn to read better.

Ahem, so Koas, like I was saying, get some ddr3. :p
Assuming you are running vista/win 7. it will really benefit.
Since you would be getting ddr3 then you may also want to consider getting 2x4gb if you ever planned to upgrade in the near future and just carry the ram over.

Yes I'm running Windows 7

32Bit, 64bit was to slow.

That makes me giggle.

Anyway, wow an 'extreme' unlocked cpu, pay 140 pounds but you can't overclock. That is like.... really unnecessary..... should have gone for the Q6600 imo. But I guess it's your money so have 'fun' with it :D

Seems rather too much cash to spend on old tech to me. Would have been far better off either grabbing a bargain Q6600 for around £45 or putting that £140 towards a proper upgrade to Ivy Bridge.

I picked up Arctic Cooling Alpine 11 GT Rev.2 as the shop owner said this will fit.

Its 75W, would this work or shall I get a higher Watt.

If you are not maxing out the cpu it ought to handle it powering up and at low/normal usage. I wouldnt want to stress test though. you won't know for sure till you try it.
