Right, as it's probably been made clear, I'm now back into PC gaming!

So, I am in need of some decent headphones.

Ideally 5.1, with a mic.

I have a sound system plugged into the PC, so not overly fussed about quality, as when I want quality and immersion, I will turn to my sound system :)

I am thinking about going down the Corsair 1500 route, any opinions?

Thanks

Can't fault my Logitech G930, I'm no audiophile though but I think the sound is just fantastic for a wireless headset.

I have also had a Roccat Kave headset, and the g930 sounds MUCH better even though it is usb and wireless wheras the kave were plugged into my xonar soundcard.

get a decent stereo set not 5.1 as they tend to suck ass.

Sennhiesers hd25 is what i have but they were bought back when I dj'd a lot but the hd595 are pretty nice.

I'd say a Xonar DG (for 5.1 virtualisation), an AntLion ModMic (better than the Zalman clip-ons etc), then a good pair of headphones that suit your taste and price range.

The first two accessories will give you a lot more freedom when it comes to picking your headphones and can be kept for if/when you choose to upgrade.

I have ordered Sennhiesher PC350's... should get them weds.

As gaming headsets would go, sennheiser are the only company I would trust to get the job done. Great headphone pedigree just with a mic.

Brand aside, you are better going with a stereo headset(or headphones of choice and a mic/ModMic, check my signature) and using some of the brilliant surround simulation you get from Dolby or Creative, I personally can't see past Dobly Headphone. The logic being, "true surround" from headphones with multiple(crappy) drivers doesn't work as well as Dolby Headphone or similar and the stereo sound suffers greatly.

If you have a soundcard or onboard sound with CMSS-3D or Dobly headphone you are laughing, or second best option, a stereo headset that uses one or the other. If you want, head over to the sound city sub-forum and ask away, I'm sure there will be a few there willing to give out some more substantial advice.

Completely this. "true 5.1" sets are a gimmick imo.

Have some HD595's, but rarely use them, liked them. But wouldn't use them for PC gaming...

As for budget, no more than £100 for the lot, I am using on board sound at the moment and it's not the best for sound system. So actually yea, if you could spec a soundcard that will allow for headphone jack, mic and optical out the back of it, headphones and microphone for all under £100. You win a cookie lol.

You'd be mad to get some rubbish 5.1 gaming headset when you've already got the 595s. As has been stated, just get a clip on mic.

Spend the other £95 on a decent Xonar.

595s are excellent. You just need a mic and a sound card then. You can get a Xonar with Dolby Headphone for £22.99 and you can get clip or desktop mic, or the one in my signature. and have change to spend on games

If you already have the 595's, get a Xonar D2(x - depending on your slots free), and a clip on mic. Dolby headphone is great for surround sound.

Why wouldn't you use them for gaming? The HD595 are actually very good for gaming with their huge soundstage.

Yea, it is rather daft buying hew headphones. Will use my HD595's, get a desk mic or a clip on and spend money getting a SC instead :)

Any ideas which Xonar for <£50 is going to fulfull my needs?

The one Cutshaw recommended is probably good enough. I have the Essence ST, which is awesome, but is a bit beyond your budget.

Agreed. When you think that your ears are basically microphones, you can only hear stereo sound. You can tell if sounds are in front or behind you by moving your head, that's why 5.1 surround works in speakers. If the speakers move with your head, it's a bit pointless.

I have a Plantronics Gamecom headset and the quality is good and the mic works. Not bothered about the 5.1 emulator because of the above reasons though.
