Supersonic PC: Ivy or Sandy, confused?

Well you also say you have a i7 930, and you can't have both as the board and cpu are not the same socket.

If you doubt what I have I shall ask Gibbo to pop along and confirm it....

I have right now in my PC

Cut from the order

- Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
- Intel Core i7 930 2.80Ghz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366) Processor - Retail
- Corsair CWCH50-1 Corsair Water-Cooling High performance CPU Cooler
- G.Skill Trident 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-16000C9 2000MHz Triple Channel Kit
- "Intel X25-M Gen2 Mainstream 80GB 2.5"" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive - OEM"
- LG 22x DVDRW LightScribe Black Retail Kit SATA

- Corsair Obsidian 800D Full Tower Case - Black
- Dell Ultrasharp U2711 27"" Professional Widescreen LCD Monitor"
- Microsoft WINDOWS 7 PROFESSIONAL 64-BIT OEM

This is where I was at:

- Asus P8Z77 WS Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
- Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA11551
- Antec Kúhler H2O 920 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
- Corsair Dominator 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C7 1600MHz Dual/Quad Channel Kit
- 2 x Crucial RealSSD M4 512GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive
- Asus GeForce GTX 690 4096MB PCI-Express
- Asus Xonar Essence STX Sound Card

and how do you do the configs above as I keep building spreadsheets??

As i have said, I would go with a gigabyte.

I would not spend that sort of money on ram. You could get some samsung green 30nm for that price and that overclocks like crazy.

I would also only go for a single 512GB SSD as i think thats enough space. and when you put them in raid you loose trim.

All the other bits look OK.

______________

But with this sort of money to spend i would go X79. Because you get greater memory bandwidth, support for 6 core CPUs also its abit cheaper.

I've twin SSD's now C: for OS and office apps and D: for Origin and Steam games and 256gb isnt enough for games really I find if you want a few installed but is fine for the OS drive.
