"LIKE" Button...

ok, what exactly would a like button do  you press it, and you get at the bottom of the post XYZ members liked this post?!? what is the point

It would make this place like facebook. Then we'd all end up with profile pages where you can see which posts we've all liked and other irrelevant **** like what time I last ate a biscuit.

I was just thinking about having a biscuit, I like this, now where is the button to confirm my like?!?!?!?

Does anybody else think we should have a like button on the forums? I read some post which I like and to show I like them I repost them rather than repost them because its what I am thinking.

Anybody?

when you have a conversation with someone and you agree with what they say do you hold your thumb up and say 'like' to the them as well

I dislike this idea so I rated the thread at one star.

If I'd have liked it, I'd have rated it at five stars.

You’d get a cheeky pop-up blowing a kiss and have lots of little hearts below your avatar. For some nerds it would be heaven and for the rest of us pointless. :p

Some of you won't be happy until OcUK looks something like this:

I think the idea of a 'like' system has been taken out of context due to its application on social networking platforms such as Facebook, where the system is abused to the extent of worthlessness.

It actually serves a decent application on a forum, as community contribution is huge part of what makes a forum successful, and peer validation is a huge part of what drives humans to exceed themselves. As long as it serves no negative purpose, such as 'disliking', the validation would probably push people to not only make coherent and decent discussions, but also to make valid and worthwhile replies.

I don't personally see the harm in it. That said, OcUK has a very narcissistic community, and as a whole probably wouldn't even entertain the idea.

Yea because people who don't need external validation for their opinions, never make valid or worthwhile replies.[/sarc]

If OcUK has a very narcissistic community surely they'd want to have any feature that gave them greater recognition?

I'm not in favour of a like button, there was a very similar thread a couple of months ago and my opinion hasn't changed. I just don't think any mooted benefits to it are worthwhile overall.
