Now I'm not a big believer in hypnosis. I believe that the power of suggestion can work, but I don't know to what sort of degree.

I suppose my limit is believing that listening to a self help hypnosis session can imprint the basic urges on the brain to allow someone to help themselves.

Anyways, That out of the way. I've been looking for a dieting hypnosis CD for my mother. She asked for it, So I'm not going to explain that I think she just needs to stop being a fatty. She's my mummy afterall.

While looking I found some amazing hypnosis claims!!

I'll ease you in...

Hypnosis - Build your self esteem :)

Hypnosis - Relaxation and Deep Sleep :)

Hypnosis - Isabella Valentine's Erotic Hypnosis :D

Hypnosis - Paul McKenna Quit Smoking & Weight loss :)

Hypnosis - Improve your Memory! :)

---

Now these are the "other" ones I've discovered

Hypnosis to prevent Hair loss

Hypnosis to change the colour of your eyes

Hypnosis for Penis Enlargement

Hypnosis for Deep Submission, transgender, sissy, shemale erotica

---

So yeah, This thread is just to point out I found some weird ass **** on the interwebs!

And it makes me wonder how many people fall prey to some of those hypnosis tapes.

Make your junk bigger with a hypnosis tape!? Hell yeah!!

I've said it before on here - I'll say it again :p

As long as there are morons out there that believe it, there will be scam artists making millions from them.

I don't know if there is any science to Hypnosis, but I'm fairly sure you can't think your penis larger :p

Hypnosis works, however I don't believe in self hypnosis tapes/cd's.

Hypnosis should be done at different rates for everyone, so you need an operator there to control the speed that works for you. There's no point lying there visualising walking down some steps if the CD already has you down the steps, on the beach and looking out to sea :)

As for the last few things you mentioned, fools and their money are easily parted ;)

these are 3 that i have seen work for people (my friend is a hypnotherapist amongst other things) but I've also seen the stop smoking one not work. you also have to want it to happen to a certain degree, but it's largely about the power of suggestion with a bit of NLP and physchology thrown in.

Whilst I can understand hypnosis may work in a few areas, such as helping (helping I may add, you need to actually want to do it too already for a start) to quit smoking, help you fall asleep and maybe building self esteem, as well as release (I'll let you guess which one I'm implying there :p), I agree that many of the claims really really really are a little bit far fetched...

Hypnosis doesn't have as much power as some hypnotists claim, it may lower your inhibitions, but it doesn't erode them completely and it isn't magic.

mythbusters disproved the hypnosis for eye colour change one.

anything to do with physical changes to your body i would say is a complete scam, but anything that is to do with emotions (or indirectly linked to emotions) could be slightly affected by these CDs. slightly is being quite generous tbh

Richard Feynman a nobel prize winning physicist was hyponitised. He wrote about it in his memoirs.

He was told to go back to his seat but not directly go around the room first then sit. He said you have the opinion of 'I know i can do it, but I won't' which he goes on to say is the exact same thing as saying you can't do it.

I have no doubt that hypnosis works however it works better on some than others and it can only really affect your brain and mentality. You see when Derren Brown does his stuff he takes a large audience and picks the best, the person whom he will have most success with.

'works' is rather subjective.

Hypnotism only really 'works' if you're willing to believe it works.

A stage hypnotist relies on peer pressure and the willingness of the participant to believe he's being hypnotised.

A therapeutic type will just rely on the person believing in it and thus giving him say more self restraint when giving up smoking etc...

It doesn't work in terms of it giving the hypnotist some sort of mysterious power of control over another person - more just influence. You can't hypnotise someone who doesn't believe in it/doesn't want to be hypnotised. And there are limits to how far you can go with willing participants who are 'under' so to speak - regardless of their willingness to be 'hypnotised' and the audience pressure you'll not persuade someone to say self harm in a serious way or do anything else extreme against their will.

NLP is a load of unproven, untested nonsense.

Most psychologists treat it with a high degree of skepticism... the few who are involved in it are generally quacks.
