Hypnosis

I always thought hypnosis was complete BS but in 1988 I was at Pontins somewhere.
We were in the nightclub and the hypnotist puts the audience through some tests before picking his stooges.
About 10 minutes in, me and my Brother In Law were looking at each other saying 'BS' when we noticed our wives were in a trance.
We were worried so called him down and he took my wife onto the stage but left my Sister In Law sleeping and said he would sort her after the show.
My wife was useless on the stage and he very quickly didn't bother with her but you could see she was in another world.
I became a believer after that because I know what my wife and Sister In Law were like.

One of my Cousins was a street hypnotist in Majorca for a number of years and he said he would always have stooges even when he knew they were faking.
A little trick they do is to tell everybody that thick people can't be hypnotised.

If hypnotism was 'real' then you'd be able to make someone fall in love with your kill themselves which you obviously can't. Getting someone to act like a 'chicken' in front of an audience is pretty simple.

anything to do with physical changes to your body i would say is a complete scam,

Hypnosis can be used to cure warts believe it or not.

I also remember reading about a case where a hypnotist cured a patient of what he believed was warts but the doctor informed him it was actually some skin disease that couldn't be cured. I only found the one report however so not 100% convinced.

During my A level psychology I read a case report about a young boy with with 7 personalities, one of which had a allergic reaction to oranges while none of the others did. Shows that the power of the mind alone can have odd effects on the human body.

Really depends on the level of intelligence. You will get levels of intelligence (or lack of) that will be unable to be hypnotised. But you are talking seriously thick.

Hypnotism is real. I am a trained hypnotherapist. What you can't do in hypnosis is get somebody to do something against their will or moral code.

I got into hypnosis after a hypnotherapist stropped me smoking. It took one session. It was not like I was an ex smoker it was like I had never been a smoker at all. It blew my mind to be honest.

Surely as a trained hypnotherapist then you know it's all about how subjective you are. I know a few people who have tried hypnotherapy for quitting smoking and it hasn't worked at all.

NLP is a load of unproven, untested nonsense.

Most psychologists treat it with a high degree of skepticism... the few who are involved in it are generally quacks.

Of course NLP works. Derron brown uses it a lot in his tricks. For example the trick where he convinces somebody their hand is stuck to the table is done with NLP and nothing else.

I would say the reason it has not worked is because the hypnotherapist was ****. At a guess I would say the people you know did not go into hypnosis and the hypnotherapist did not check they are in hypnosis. Too many hypnotherapists do a one shoe fits all approach. There are many ways to take somebody into hypnosis. You have to find the most suitable one for each client.

We all go into hypnosis regularly. Ever been reading or watching TV and somebody said something like "want a cup of tea?" but you did not here them until they said it for the 3rd or 4th time?. You were in hypnosis. Ever been driving and you don't remember the last 10 minutes of driving? You were in hypnosis.

I tried twice to quit smoking with hypnosis. 1st time I came out of the guys office and lit a cigarette. I was then told by a hypnotherapist in America to do research and find somebody with a good reputation. I found a guy in Manchester. Came out of his office and never smoked again. Never craved or thought about cigarettes in any situation.

I have hypnotised people who do not believe in hypnosis.

ennogs would you mind if I asked you a few questions via email about this and other stuff based on a previous (initially positive but ultimately unsuccessful) hypnotherapy course?

For example we are all either mainly auditory, visual or kinesthetic (feeling). So lets say I am able explaining something to somebody and they are not getting it. Then all of a sudden they get it.

An auditory person may say "I HEAR what you are saying now"

A visual person may say "I SEE what you mean now"

A kinesthetic person may say "I get a GRASP on that now"

All basically mean they understand it now.

So if I was doing a story type hypnosis induction

For an auditory person I may say something like "You are on the beach, you can hear the seagulls up above and you can her the waves lapping at the shore etc"

For a visual person I may say something like "You are on a beach, you can see the golden coloured sand and the deep blue sea etc"

For a kinesthitic person I may say something like "You are on a beach, you can feel the warm sun on your skin, you can feel the soft sand on the soles of your feet etc"

Some people are too analytical. For those people you would use a confusion method so the conscious brain just gives up.

i've seen a program about this. it was not hypnotism, but the placebo effect that cured him of the disease. i cant remember what the disease was either (possibly something to do with elephant skin), but he certainly wasnt cured through hypnotism. he was given some medicine that he was told would clear up the disease, and this medicine cured him. many doctors wanted the medicine that cured the doctor gave him, but the doctor showed that it was something that really shouldnt have cured him

along the same lines as hypnotism but not quite the same

either that, or there were two similar cases

I saw a self hypnosis CD that claimed to build your ideal physique by using your body's own holographic image of itself.

This is how I've become so jacked.
