HA !!! I bet that got you looking expecting some pictures of "those" kind of puppies :D

But no, I fear I have led you all in here on a false promise of fleshy mammary goodness !

Yes, its true, I am referring to canine puppies.

My missus has two 6 month old spaniels and aside from the fact that they, like her, are several loops short of a fruit, they have this somewhat rooster like tendency to howl like wolves in the small hours of the morning. Which despite having the bonus of waking her up and allowing me to have my wicked way with her before work, is rather annoying in the event of attempting to get some semblence of a lay in. They are exercised well and sleep together, but one generally starts the howling and the other joins in and then its like something from American Werewolf in London.

Has anyone got dogs that do this? What did you do to stop them doing it?

(other than masking tape over the mouth)

have you tried feeding them later, or letting them out to the toilet when it starts? it could just be trying to tell you it wants something (food, drink, toilet). how long have you had them, and have they been like this from day 1? is it always the same one that initiates the howling?

Our six month old springer howls/barks for attention when he wants something but is quiet through the night. What is your feeding and toilet routine before bedtime and in the morning? Would you be able to split them up to sleep separately?

It tends to be the bitch who initiates the howling, she has some kind of lesbian fetish thing going on with my missus I think, adores her. Have tried letting them out for toilet when they do it, no joy with that. Have been like it pretty much since they got the vocal strength to do it. They are fed fairly late at night before bed and toileted too. Havent tried splitting them up to sleep seperately, would that just make them whine for each other?

Bit of a silly question but what action actually gets them to stop? You said you let them out but that doesn't help, does feeding them stop it? Or do they just quiet down after you or the missus have been up for a bit? A friend of mine had the same problem with his doberman but it grew out of it eventually.

Pretty much the only thing that quietens them down for a bit is when the missus goes down and sees them for a while. Then they clam up for a little while before starting again. I mean, through the night they are fine, they generally sleep right through. Yeah I wondered if it was something they would grow out of, or something where we could keep them in the dark or something and it might keep them quiet til we got up

yes darling, but your idea of keeping them in the dark is a coffin in the back garden ;)

have you tried letting them sleep with something that reminds them of your missus, like and old jumper or something? out pup used to love old (well they become old once he got hold of them) socks. if he had something with him he was fine, take it away and he was a bugger.

Hey ! You saying my missus is an old jumper !? :p

Hmm, its an interesting idea though, now....what can I put in there to remind them of the missus. An empty wine bottle perhaps. :)

Maybe not old socks, dont want the RSPCA round on animal cruelty charges, but yeah some old jumper or something might be worth a shot

It sounds to me like they are howling in order to get attention.

If you keep responding to their request, then they'll keep doing it.

Yeah that was my thought, the trouble is the neighbour who works night shifts, dont want to annoy the guy by letting them howl nonstop til they give up.

Well considering they are beyond obsessed with your facial hair perhaps there is something beardy that we could leave in the cage for them to lick? :D

Electric shock collar.

Or at least punish them for inappropriate behaviour rather than pander to their every whim.

Reward good behaviour also.

Postscript - I love your writing style.
