Whats the deal with Mobility Scooters driving on roads? Are they allowed? Some idiot today decided to run into a main road and drive along at 5mph without a care in the world and holding up a long queue of cars behind it.

I see an old women on a big, two-seater mobility scooter thing (more like a golf cart) taking a little girl to school every morning. She rides on the road at about 5mph.

IIRC there are two different speeds and only the quicker ones (10mph?) ones are allowed on the road. I saw one on an 'national' A road before

They are a menace on the roads, every single one of them. No requirement to pass a test, no tax or insurance. Jumping red lights all the time and taking short cuts up on the pavement when it suits them. Holding up traffic and thinking they are a law unto themselves, above all us car drivers. They always go out looking for trouble and all seem to have a chip on their shoulder about other road users.

I've seen a few of these driving around in MK on the odd occasion on my way home from work. Bit dangerous comming up behind one on a roundabout in a NSL zone.
I did have a bit of a giggle to myself after though, just over how random it was.

I dont think they should be on the road though, just seems dangerous to me.

If you were 85 on one of these things, the last thing you're gonna care about is following rules.. whats the worst that can happen to you?!

Let them enjoy themselves in their final days.

some coffin dodger lost control of his scooter in our local supermarket and scooped up my 10 year old daughter, dragged her several metres across the store and crashed into a display with her still pinned to the front of his scooter.

these things need legislation.

last I heard, OAP's were drag racing down down the local industrial park to see who could do the quickest 0-coffin

Theres an old guy I see regularly around the East End of Glasgow with a bright red evo covered in Carbon fibre parts and the loudest exhaust known to man, looks at least 80 but drives in a manner I would if i owned a naughty evo :) not all old people are rocking mobility scooters, That said we have a couple of oaps in our VW owners club who regularly rock up to track days in various modded dubs.
