or any other make thats recommended

my gaming res is
1920x1200

Is it possible the coil whine you're getting is PSU related? My 7970 whined a bit for a few days when new, but doesn't do it now.

I'd say add a bit more cash and get this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-007-VX&tool=3 as AFAIK the Direct CUII 7970 is voltage locked at a max of 1188mv.

Or get the 670, but do some research on here first, as I can't recommend that card.

No the coil whine was coming from the card
Tried a different PSU still there
Really dont want to have another card with coil whine
Does the 670 suffer from whine?

Any high end GPU can suffer from whine tbh, when you're within RMA time (14 days if bought from here) leave Heaven running for an hour or so and see if it's any different?
Otherwise it could be something on your system causing excessive whine, not related to the PSU specifically, maybe PCIE? dunno

Had crazy high temps on my gigabyte 7970 but no coil whine, others report their temps are quite good.

Gigabyte windforce 7970 barely breaks 60C even when heavily overvolted/overclocked although at the expense of noise at max oc, think the default fan profile is a little over cautious. Can't complain about the performance though, I would advise looking in the 670 thread at the user experienced performance, which defo doesn't seem to match up with the reviews (although still very good) and in my mind doesn't come as close to the 7970 as 1st reports indicated.

Just to add ,When looking at the windforce 670 , its only a matter of short time i imagine the MSI twin frozr III will make an appearance , Most comparisons i have seen you cant put a fag paper between them , though the Forza III seems to win , and thats with two fans . If you do go windforce 7970,670, or 680 you will kick yourself with that horrible blue board when you could have chosen the Frozr , Its also smaller than the AMD 6970 lightning , so will fit nicely in most cases against these new black MB"s

Same one as in my Sig:
Reference Saphire HD7970, first batch released.
Seems to happen when fps drops, anything below 45fps is very audible!!!

How come?

sellw88, just a friendly heads up, better sort your sig as per forum rules:

A signature may contain one or more images but they must fit within a box with maximum dimensions of 400 x 75 pixels (width x height) and with a maximum (combined) file size of 20k. Images containing mostly very large words or animated .gifs will not be permitted. You may also add 1 consecutive lines of normal or smaller text directly above or underneath the image with no spaces inbetween image and text. If no images are used then up to 4 consecutive lines of normal or smaller text is permitted. Do not pad out your text lines with blanks lines. A line of text is defined as having a maximum length of 400 pixels.

We're talking about a graphics card here, not a fashion item
