Police or not Police?

That must be E&W Burnsy?

e: Those powers about requiring details (which is basically the lynch pin of al their other powers) - do they have the power to detain the person for a reasonable time to confirm that the details given are accurate?

I've assumed that a community support officer isn't a police officer - and have voted that only fully warranted police are "police". So I've probably got a lot of them wrong.

You're supposed to mark police for both constables and PCSOs as per the bit at the top ;):p

The wiki link is E&W only, yes.

that was fun.

the worst of the lot of them are door stewards/bouncers, these people think they are above the law. i was in glasgow city centre a few years back and watched 2 bouncers grab a guy throw him up against a wall and detain him.

police came down and put one of the bouncers into handcuffs.

Done. Some I think I could see pol... on badges, so a clue there but some were surprisingly difficult at first glance. If they came at me and immediately started into conversation and didn't identify themselves I would be stuck for a bit.

I'm not exactly the type of person to fall foul of the law, additionally I suspect these pseudo police would be targeting children and young adults rather than people my age... however I would be very unlikely to feel comfortable being detained by someone who wasn't the police. If they explained that they had reason to believe I had done something wrong then I'd cooperate, but if they grabbed me and attempted to huckle me then I'd resist, with force if required. I think that's a reasonable response so I don't know if these are a good idea.

I do not think it is a good idea as well.. Even less so that they include individuals working for private companies:

Security guards employed by MacLellan International Ltd at the The Mall Shopping Centre at Cribbs Causeway near Bristol

Security staff at the University of Hertfordshire employed by Unisecure Ltd,
Employees of Parkguard Ltd.

Law enforcement should be the job of the state, end of.
