Police or not Police?

No it doesn't. I'll post the answers in a couple of weeks as I stated in the OP ;)

Ugh, all that and I don't get to find out how many I got right. I shall have to find my reward elsewhere.

Hmmph.

I found that some of the images made it impossible to make out whether the person was an officer or not......this was an inherent problem with the image itself rather than identifying the person in uniform as being a Police Officer.

Bear in mind "real" police (as in official UK police force) also include MOD police, Nuclear Constabulary, BTP etc.

I think if you need to qualify the word police you're not - that was my thinking anyway.

If they indeed are not police then how on earth can they be not impersonating...

no, years and years ago they used to be actual constables but was later removed, some are employed by local councils but arnt actuall police

Yup that's what I thought. Agree with you also Halk, how can they not be impersonating an officer when they have POLICE in huge letters across their vests.

Same here, only those who I thought are police got the the police vote.

PCSOs, waste of money, yes. Police, they are not.

A couple of the pics are pretty old (women in skirts?!?). Look out for eppaulettes and things like handcuffs for clues.

I was generally thrown off by most of these pictures. I think you raise a valid point.

Then again I have little contact with the police so dont have much to go on.

As long as the 'Special' is considered a copper then I'll be OK lol. I'll be interested in the results.

TBH.. if I was just watching someone being tackled, I might not recognise police officers or not.

Considering Specials have every power that a full time cop has, then yes they should be considered police. They have more power than a PCSO.

Oops, didn't read the PCSO bit! I recognise most of the pictures but couldn't remember the answers...

The ones I do know, I think will shock a lot of people.

That's not coincidental. You may not get time to fully scrutinise their uniform when you come into contact with them. It may be dark, it may be difficult to see because you've just been punched in the face. In front of the PC, you have a somewhat unrealistic amount of time to look at the uniform to make a decision. IMO, Police uniforms should be instantly recognisable from a security guard.

Specials are constables just like any other. Considering the uniform is often indistinguishable from a PC, it would be silly and plain wrong to exclude.

Just a point here Burnsy - the fact that the people doing this test know what it is means they're more likely to think a bit harder/second guess themselves where they wouldn't normally in an everyday situation. To get a true representation of whether people identify the non-police security staff as real police you would need to make a survey with multiple types of emergency service personnel and give the relevant options for each.

You may well have thought of this already!

You make a good point, but I wanted my comparison to be specifically against Police only as that's where my interest lies.
