Amount of upside down Union Jacks is really annoying me

I don't think it was the media itself, it wasn't helped that the English national identity was so strongly yoked to Britain and British that the fascists managed to hijack the all but ignored English symbolic identity. Before anyone had really considered a resurgence in sub-British national identities, and a decline in Britishness, the far right had already attached itself strongly to the St George's cross and football hoolagism has also played its part over the years. Media portrayal didn't help, but they were only portraying events. It's up to the people to take their impressions, and sadly for some they feel that English indentity has been usurped by the dross of the right.

I agree you should be proud of where you come from and stay, and the answer isn't easy other than flying the flag against them and challenging their behaviour.

There’s a lot of Union Flags (Jacks) around at the moments and it’s really annoying me how many are hung the wrong way.

Speaking to a few people I was surprised how many didn’t know that there was a correct way to hang it. As you can see it is not entirely symmetrical. You can rotate the flag and it still will be the right way up but you can't reverse it.

The broader (wider) diagonal white stripe should be at the top on the side of the flag nearest the flagpole.

Did you know that the blue in the flag was originally a dark purple but this proved hard to consistently replicate so a navy blue was settled upon?

Never noticed that, which made me read up on the Union Flag.

Going on to the wiki page about the Union Flag, it was interesting to read about the evolution of the Union Flag which is a combination of the St Andrew's Cross, St George's Cross, and St Patrick's Cross. Source

I love the union flag, and I think its good to see it about more. Its unfortunate that self hating left wingers try to associate it with negatives, when they are happy to see just about every other nations flag flying about the place.

If this really bothers you that much, perhaps you need a change of perspective. To be hung up on such a triviality is a sign that your life is in dire need of re-evaluation.

the amount of union jacks around the place at the moment makes the country look like the BNP meeting of the century, tacky!

Completely the opposite in my opinion. It's claiming back the union jack as a celebration of the UK and what's great about our country.
