I probably would yeah, because of an emotional reaction. Every human being would have a similar reaction, and for that reason, they should be the last person to have a say in the sentencing. The whole reason we have a judge and jury is so that an impartial judgement and sentence can be made which is as free from emotional bias as possible.

Just to make it completely clear for you:

Justice =/= vengeance
Justice =/= punishment
Justice =/= victims relatives getting what they want

Why call her a grandmother rather than just a woman?

I thought it was your grandmother which is why I clicked.

I always wonder about why they do that in stories.

Like when they pick up suspected perverts they'll always write

Mr X aged 45 single living alone. Like this means he must have done it... Ah yes he's alone at 45 so it must have been him.

What happened to this woman was shocking grandmother or not wouldn't you say?

the worst thing is in the prison system he will most likely be in with the paedos and sex offenders - all happily away from genpop who would most likely shiv them. why do the worst of the worst get better treatment inside than the rest of us? so wrong.

to be honest the guys i knew that mugged an old lady both got 6 years. not big but better than the 'sick' lady who got **** all trying to murder a baby or the parents who made their son live in a freezing coal bunker who got 2 years.

jas72 - I know what you mean about headlines. Saw one today about Cynthia Nixon (the ginger from Sex & The City) marrying her partner.....'lesbian lover' :confused:. We know she is gay as the picture is of two women and since when were long term partners referred to solely as 'lovers'.

Any way R.I.P Emma Winnall, I hope they catch the person who subjected her to this horrific attack.

It's simply detail - all journalism does it to give background and entice readership - don't read too much into it.

Poor woman has now succumbed to her injuries - may she rest in peace.

I feel so saddened that we live in a society where this is still considered acceptable by some - by that I mean the perpetrators of course.

We can only hope that they are caught and dealt with accordingly, and hopefully allow the family to get some closure.

I will bet anyone here a tenner through that if they do get caught they get 15 years or less.

As a side bet, I'll happily bet anyone that they are the offspring of utter scum living on a council estate, brought up on benefits by uneducated work shy parents who almost certainly taught them how to steal.

If the problem was liberalism why do the most liberal county's have the lowest crime rates/re-offender rates?.

in fairness the drugs one rarely works. maybe they will just be suffering from 'depression' (not the real one, the one that gets you off, that seems to work these days)

wow, all the mod cons then? you need the good behaviour thing. it makes the majority of cons much more well behaved. if they were all just let out on the release date then what to they have to lose if they dont behave?

i do laugh. most of the guys on here would be crying to their mummies if they faced a spell in jail.

anyway, i actually think the guy who did it is scum. i dont really care what happens to him. anyone who can do that to an old lady needs the **** kicking out of them. stick them in general population and let the cons lose on him.

do they know why he beat her? was he looting her bedroom and woke her up and tried to stop her screaming? not that its an excuse im just trying to rationalise this in my head. although maybe its just not possible and he is a sick psycho. i mean we had someone eating faces yesterday. the world is just ****ed up.

they do that over here too. but generally for multiple murders. you also have a rec, which is every x years they re-evaluate if you should be released.

or they just commit you and you spend the rest of your life in a mental institute.

USA isnt strict. the cons get up to far worse over there and are out much more of the time. we lock ours up for 23 hours a day in some places. not all prisons are holidays camps. stupidly there are massive differences across the board from the state run to the private prisons (which are more lenient as it means the screws get an easier time)

asia and africa etc have more crime than here. i was in kenya and there was a lot more murdering going over there than here.
