Hi Guys,

Looking for a 2nd or more opinion on a problem my friend is experiencing while playing games first 10 mins of gameplay is fine doesn't matter what game he says the audio distorts as shown in the video hes made and the frame rate drops next to nothing a pc reboot fixes it and nothing is shown in eventviewer.

he has a 5870 ATI intel core i7 CPU 860 @ 2.80GHz 2.80ghz 8gb ram

hes tried older/newer drivers

i would say its his graphics card considering it only happens when in a 3d environment.

hes recorded what happens.

is it only during games? does it happen when he plays youtube videos or anything like that? things that would be graphics intensive or cpu and ram intensive

he should try running memtest86 to test the ram to check if there are any errors. He should also try a graphics card benchmark like unigine and see if it throws up any errors. does he have a sound card or is it just the build in sound card in the motherboard?

Hi,

Good idea he says he's running onboard sound, good idea with testing via memtest86 and unigine :)

He has also said when he exits the game the computer itself does slow down mouse freezing etc.. hmm

flip i have like a million possibilities going through my head, while he is trying those tests also do a hard drive check to make sure there aren't any errors in sectors i've seen a brand new dell quad core and all the bells and whistles slow right down to a 30 minute boot time and slow mouse response because of sector errors also if he can try and switch out the graphics card to see if it makes a difference

Also run MSI afterburner (like fraps but better and low resource), to monitor GPU temp, load, fan speed, memory usage and framerate.

Could be a host of things. PSU, memory, hard drives (when they go back, they cause mayhem).
