Welcome to a celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

queenjub1.jpg

The Queen came to the throne on 6 February 1952 and her coronation took place on 2 June 1953. She celebrated her Silver Jubilee (25 years) in 1977 and her Golden Jubilee (50 years) in 2002. Now in 2012 we celebrate her Diamond Jubilee (60 years).

I would like to take this opportunity to wish her Majesty a wonderful Jubilee Diamond weekend from all her loyal GD subjects.

Events, history, etc:

So time for the celebrations to begin. Let us have all you experiences from this historic weekend and holiday. This is a celebaration thread so please don't spoil it. :)

The 'Clock Tower' is being renamed Elizabeth Tower. And naturally a lot of people seem to think the name 'Big Ben' is being replaced and so do all the foreign (read: mainly American) media outlets.

This still confuses me. If we're celebrating her coronation, surely that should be next year?

Its to do with the way its counted. We're celebrating the queen going into her 60th year of reign. Not completing her 60th year. This is common place in the orient where typically birthdays etc are counted by the year you are going into rather than finishing.

Is there anywhere that's streaming the events live online? (in in the USA)

I'm not seeing it on iPlayer. Just the Prince of Wales documentary.

Does iPlayer even stream live TV ? I rarely use it.

I can't bring myself to celebrate it, as the queen stands for everything I hate about inequality.

However, happy days to those that do, enjoy yourself!

Well I will be doing nothing special, I don't care for it =)

Think there's a few street parties in the area.

Not a fan of the royal family at all, so wont be doing anything to celebrate this. Am going out for dinner and to see Prometheus at the IMAX with friends though. That should be fun!

I'm working all weekend, after having the best year of my life living in France... So I'm miserable. Not that I would have celebrated it, anyway. :p

Have a good one.

Don't give 2 hoots about the Jubilee. I'm working Sat, Sun, Mon and Tue for double bubble.

Anyway this celebration thing is all about London again.
