Hi guys, i'm planning on getting a new PC probably within about a month and i was pretty much set on this one.

PSU: 650W
Processor: AMD FX 6100 3.3Ghz
Hard Drive 1: 500GB, 7200rpm
Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM
Graphics: AMD/ATi 6770 1GB DDR5
£550
However a friend of mine looked at it and said that he thought i could get something better for less if i asked around on here.
I've seen a lot of people saying that the i3 is a good choice for a cpu but i was wondering why. It's dual core and doesn't seem to be that fast.
Full builds would be really appreciated. Preferably under £500 but if it can be made significantly better for an extra few quid that's cool. Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome,

First off you should know that you can't post competitor links on this forum. I would remove that before the mods do, if i were you.

Secondly, yes you can get better the money here.

Its complex to fully explain but the archtechure of the Sandybridge i3/i5 and i7 chips have a lot more power than the AMD Bulldozer line. Even though the 6100 has '6 cores' it struggles to keep up with the i5's (even the lower range). It is between the i3's and i5's, these also have a lot more features.

By full builds, do you mean pre-built? or are you happy to build yourself? Building yourself can save you a bit more money but it can be a hassle if you don't feel confident.

Bump for Tiggz ma buddy, I can build it with Tiggz so building it himself is fine.

as doomedspeed has stated the amd fx 6100 may have more cores (6) and it also has a higher passmark benchmark of 5,577 whereas the i3 only has a dual core and 4 threads and a lower benchmark of 4,211 it is able to use those cores more effectively and will be able to process more efficiently than an amd processor

Thanks for the speedy replys and that build looks pretty awesome sparx so ill look into that. Are there any parts which you think might be worth spending a little more on like do i need a better gpu?

Depends, If you are looking to play games like battlefield 3 etc. This card is perfect, if you want crysis on high settings it copes fine, If you are finicky and want 100fps in all of your games then you probably need a more powerful card,

It all depends on what you want it for, What games are you looking to play?

The 6850 will play LoL, ARMA 2 and GW2 perfectly fine.. If you do want to upgrade it the only thing worth while would be the GTX 560Ti for the money (clicky)..

Whats the budget you would like to stick to? £500? or less than that?

with and operating system £600 possibly but the cheaper the better really. im defo not going over that so if its not gonna greatly improve the performance im fine with the build suggested. You guys seem to know what your talking bout so ill go for what you think.

Hm ok well thats pretty expensive. Ill maybe try and upgrade to that at a later date or ill just post again at the time. Thanks for all your help i think ill pretty much be going with whats been recommended.

Pff who buys operating systems these days ;)

Anywho looks like a good set of items there, difficult to improve upon with the budget you have, so grab the cash and get spending!

Enjoy :)
