Hey all.

I am afraid I am not manly enough as I am a hayfever sufferer and I think my biggest downfall is grass pollen.

The purpose of this thread is to discuss how fellow suffers deal with it.

I am currently using:
- Tesco own brand tablets (10mg Loratadine) - No idea if it works!
- An air purifier (basically a fan with a pollen filter on it) and have it in my bedroom which I think helps at night. I have finally got rid of my Micra and now have a Focus with A/C with a pollen filter.
- Netipot that I bought a few months ago when I had sinus pain - I truely feel it works with washing trapped pollen out of the sinuses etc.
- Using my contacts less and using my glasses a few days per week. Also when wearing my contacts I would take them out earlier at night.

Although I suffer with it less now, I used to have chronic hayfever problems always early on in the year (around March usually). I started using contact lenses in 2008 and when I went for my assessment I mentioned that I was a hayfever sufferer with one of the worst symptoms being itchy eyes. The optician actually said that contact lenses might help - as they sit directly over the iris, they actually stop pollen hitting the surface of the eye.

Not sure how true that is, but I have to say, wearing contacts certainly never made my symptoms any worse.

Clarityn is Loratidine. I gave up on that for Zirtek (Cetirizine) as it became ineffective, and have now moved on to Telfast (Fexofenadine) as Cetirizine became less and less effective.
Doctors don't like to prescribe Fexofenadineas it is much more expensive than the others, however I insisted at is the only one that has any effect for me now.

For anyone using Clarityn that is finding it is getting less effective, Neoclarityn is supposed to be better.

I've been using local honey 3 times a day for the last 3 years during . It used to be really bad and kicked my asthma in.

Last year wasn't too bad, and this year I've had nothing yet. :)

I used to suffer really badly with it, but so far this year, have had nothing but a few sneezes every now and again. Here's to hope!

Same for me, hopefully it is going away finally

I was fine up till yesterday and then was really full of it. Today, back to nothing again. Weird. For a laugh last year I tried the laser things that you stick up your nose, as well as a jar containing a combination of local honey/bee pollen/royal jelly.

I suffer like a bitch. Took advantage of Boots BOGOF deal and got 2 x 60 Piriton tablets (One every 4 hour as the 1 a day tablets are rubbish) for £6 odd.

Still manage to have dodgy eyes and a runny nose.

I had it earlier in the year, around March / April time. Last year I picked up a load of generics for like 11p for 30 tablets, definitely recommended.

I find one Cetirizine tablet in the morning with a large glass of water (a pint preferably) is the best way to avoid it. Pollution is the main reason down here in London.

I suffer from it but the weird thing is I live in the countryside surrounded by fields yet whenever I work nightshift in the heart of Belfast I suffer it the worst! Just do the usual shower, wash hair before bed esp. if Ive been outside.

Oh almost forgot, apart from the sneezing it's the itchy eyes kill me!

I suffer from Hayfeaver aswell,Although my tablets are prescribed (Fexofenadine 120Mg)

Those 10mg tablets you can pick up from most shops do nothing for me,They are not strong enough.

The Fexofenadine does a good job,Although they can make you tired.

Popping 1-a-day pills every day and it fights most of it off. Still feel the tingle in the nose with the odd sneeze every now and then.

Last year was KILLER for me though, never had it so bad.

Some interesting stuff so far guys :).

I completely forgot about honey this year! I had bought some a few years ago but my dad ate iit all!

I agree with the contact lense comment, but when my eyes get sore the contacts are quite uncomfortable.
