why would any get a S.Bull Terrier or any other dangerous dog?

Ok I understand they if trained properly they can be quite safe but why take the risk when you can get say a labrador which even if you do not bother to train properly is probably not going to try and eat your child.

They are much stronger then other dogs so if something did go wrong its going to cause much more damage then another dog. They may be loving loyal dogs but so are 90% of other dog breeds.

I know some idiots buy it as a status symbol but I have also seen lots of normal looking families with them around london.

If I had children I'd probably take it into account, but if you're a good owner and train it well, it'll be just as placid as any other breed.

The biggest problem with SB terriers is how ugly they are. Don't want to wake up in the morning and be greeted with that every day. :p

A friend of mine has one.

It is the most dopey, docile, chilled out, friendliest dog I have ever met in my life, fact.

As with all dogs...its 90% down to the way the owner is. They have the stereotype of being savage as the typical knuckle dragging monkeys that get them are usually complete douchebags and train the dogs as such.

The problem is not their normal temperament...but their unpredictability.......even the best trained and docilest dog can get stressed and snappy....the problem is that some breeds, due to their breeding can be unpredictable and it only takes a moment to destroy a child.

It just isn't worth the risk.

This tbh, friend of mine had one ( bitch ), had her from a pup, & he trained her to be the most placid easy going dog you could imagine, & in all the time he had her she never once snapped, snarled, barked, or went for any one, human or animal, aggressively.

I used to feel sorry for her some times as he'd bring her round mine & she'd get beaten up by my & the neighbours cats whilst out in the back garden. :p

Nothing wrong at all with staffies, infact they are very good around children. The problem is the **** that own one because they think they look hard and then train them to be aggressive, which can be done with almost any dog.

I know someone who had a staffie before they had kids, then had two children and it is as docile and friendly as any other dog, then you have that case of the staffie mauling that child the other day, my little brother and step mum know the family that own that dog and they are nutters and used to make the dog attack on command. All depends on the owners.

I know of loads of staffies that are soft as anything. A golden retriever has the capacity to do a lot of damage too so let's just ban all dogs and just own cats instead.

Why do people keep beating a dead horse? This point has been argued over and over about all the stereotypical dangerous dogs.

It IS whether you like it or not dependent on the dogs upbringing and natural temperament also ALL dogs can be dangerous in certain circumstances.

I used to have a staffie, he was a bit crazy but gentle as anything except when he was near other dogs.

For instance I could play fight with him and he'd gnaw at my hand but never bite down. But on the other hand I saw him grab some other dog by the tail thrash him about like a rag doll and bite the end of its tail off.

Dogs will be dogs, they're territorial but still mans best friend. All my dogs have sung true to the phrase don't bite the hand which feeds, they've all been incredibly loyal and obedient.
