£10,000 diesel - What's the least soul destroying and why?

I wouldn't want to do mega miles in my Golf TSI, it's actually quite thirsty when doing anything other than driving very sedately. However we've been very pleased with it for 20 minute commutes and driving to town. Our DSG box started juddering recently and has just had a replacement clutch pack. 10 hr job so thank god it was in warranty. I know it's just one example, but don't assume the Golf will be completely reliable. The TSI 170 also has a supercharger as well as a turbo, lots to go wrong. I'm extending the warranty.

It's a nice solid feeling cabin though. But for lots of motorway miles I'd buy a 2.0 A6.

Had a look at a MK6 yesterday when I nipped into VW. Had to put up with the sales dude selling me PCP though ;)

In GT spec it's very nice. The seats are super comfortable aswell.

I believe the TSI 140 has a twincharged configuration like the 170. You actually have to go all the way down to the TSI 120 to lose the supercharger.

I still think any of the TSI engines would be more reliable than the TDI ones mind. I'm actually trying to figure out what most of the stuff under my bonnet does apart from blow into tiny pieces when I least want it to and leave me with a nice bill. :(

YES I'M BITTER. :D

Thrown the diesel idea out the window.

Going for a 59/60 plate Fiesta 1.6 Titanium or Zetec S with cruise and leather. Drove one today and it's fantastic even with only 120bhp.

Cheap insurance and running costs aswell.

What the...?

If you're going to get a Fiesta then don't spend more than about £6K on one, and only even then if it's a good example of an ST.

Find me an old shape Fiesta with the same spec as a current Titanium ;)

Seriously look at the spec sheet of a titanium. Its packed with toys.

I'd post it but I'm sat on the M1 on my phone :p

It's still £10k on a Fiesta!

You can get a lot of car for £10k, you are getting secondhand anyway so how on earth did you come to the conclusion of a Fiesta?

I can't believe you're considering small cars for trundling up and down the M1.
Get a Volvo and be done with it. Lots of spec, lots of comfort. What more do you want?

If you want something small and economical, do it properly and get a polo bluemotion
