Are you running 32bit or 64bit Java? I believe that 32bit Java on a 64bit OS can cause issues.
If you look in the Technic forums there's a forum about the launcher which has a common problems and solutions thread.

Guys if you are wanting a nice texture pack which includes ic2/buildcraft stuff etc then i think Sphax bd supports it all

Cool, I stopped playing on the OcUK server for a while because I was having fun with these sort of mods in SSP, glad to have a chance to use some of them in SMP now on the OcUK server.
I know some players won't be happy with the change because it's not naked minecraft but I think it adds a whole lot more fun.

There's already a link to the How to Join page which has the step-by-step stuff and the download links.
Because I don't enjoy mods like Technic, nor do I wish to install them. I tried to go on the normal(main) server today and needed the mod, haven't seen any mention of IP to the normal server so don't know that, and wouldn't bother as nobody would play on it any more as most people will be attracted to the easier version of minecraft. (Easier as in automated mining etc, building the stuff would be difficult I imagine.)

Robo, the stuff is not that invasive, you could quite easily play without using the automated bits. You never know, you might enjoy it

I know I won't. I enjoy the constant challenge surrounding minecraft even at the end game, but this removes that, and yes, it is invasive, if I don't use it I'm at such a disadvantage to everyone else it's ridiculous. They could have ten chests of cobble etc, and I'd have one. If I played it without the automated bits it'd mean basically playing single player while chatting to people, something that I have steam and other things for.
