*** The official HTC One S thread ***

Yodel finally delivered! Here's my first impressions. (with extra drama)

*Opens box and takes it out*

Oh God! The design and materials are just peeeeeeerfect!
I've seen the future and it's been micro arc oxidised  Mmmmm feels sooooo good! RIP plastic phones, yes even the ones with a fancy unibody and stupid, stupid hypeglaze.

*takes sim cover off*

Oh God! WHY HTC? WHY?
It doesn't fit properly :( Just like virtually all HTC battery covers from the last few years. This needs to go back, stupid generic HTC design flaw. How do they keep messing this one up? :(

*Turns on phone*

Oh God! The chromatic distortion and fringing make my eyes go funny.
I can see why people slated this panel on the Razr, qHD icons and text exaggerate the pentile effect. :( Whites have that magenta hue and everything feels ...flat. :(
Guess it looks OK at arms length and viewing angles are great. Defiantly a mid range screen though.

*Starts playing around*

Oh God! This is snappy
Windows Phone 7.5 and iOS 6 eat your heart out! All your benchmark are belong to us  1450ms in Sunspider  Over 5000 in quadrant  No point owning anything else, take that SGS3 and One X, flagship my ***

*Presses multitasking button*

Oh God! It's ****** up

*Quickly updates firmware and does a factory reset *

Oh God! Where's the performance gone?
1900ms in Sunspider? 4200 in quadrant  Are you kidding me? Have they just gimped performance to be slower than the One X and closer to the new S3 version?

*Presses multitasking button*

Oh God! It's still ****** up. Better but it still reloads apps like a 512MB Android and looks rubbish. I miss webOS

Quick conclusion: The most confusing phone ever! :D

Wow sarge! - maybe loosen a couple of straps off the white jacket :D Nice post.

so performance is great but screen's not that great and sim cover is crappy?

Lol, I like that style of post a lot Sarge! :D

You crazy?! :p

Addressing some areas that you aren't fussed/having problems with/on:

- I think the SIM cover is fine!!! :p  Mine fits just fine, not the easiest to put back on and get off though, however, once it is fitted, it is tightly done and not loose and out of place.

- :( Surprised about your thoughts on the screen as well!!!! I find that things really pop out and the thin bezel helps with that even more, also my whites are very white, although from what I have read, this seems to be very variable on all AMOLED phones.

Everyone that has seen my S have been very impressed with the screen and is one of the first things that people actually comment on, and my friend who has the GS 2, much prefers the screen of the S

- Haven't done a quadrant score since the last update, only done it for my review. Will give it a shot later and let you know. Will also try sunspider, never used it.

- If you disable apps that you don't need and put apex on as well as a different browser etc. the multi-tasking improves a bit......

So mixed thoughts so far then :p :D

That's why I'm reading it even though I have no intention of buying one, I like a bit of thought out depth

Most of it isn't actually about the S lol, it is about everything android and previous phones etc. :p

You've seen the S2 screen haven't you sarge? what's yours thought comparing it to the HOS screen.

My bro's may not be here till the 20th.

Just ran a few quick tests in quadrant and sunspider:

More or less the same for me in quadrant (ran the test multiple times to get a fair/accurate result and it came out within a 100-200 or more difference each time, X coming out on top sometimes and S on top other times), maybe a bit lower to what I was getting before the update, can't remember exactly........

Sunspider, just ran this twice using ICS browser + and I got around this value:

Before I ran both benchmark tests, I stopped/cleared all tasks using the sense task manager.

Still a long way to go till it beats my desktop PC though (firefox nightly/UX build, 9 tabs opened, i5 750 stock, 8GB RAM, standard mechanical hard drive)! :p
