Ice Cream Sandwich

Soz to hijack thread but which one would you buy HTC One X or HTC One S??

Seeing O2 doing them on a £36 p/m deal, will go and check them asap but just wanted to hear from the pros first :)

Advantages of X over S:

- better screen, 720P 4.7"
- better GPU
- better photo quality IMO (both should be the same really, but from what I have seen so far the X appears to be sharper for photos etc.)
- NFC
- 32GB of storage as opposed to 16GB on the S

Advantages of S over X:

- better battery life (with similar usage for both handsets the X seems to get about 3 hours and 30 minutes for on screen time at the very best around 30% screen brightness whereas the S at the very best gets about 4 hours 30 minutes for on screen time at 40% screen brightness and average for the X is about 3 hours to 3 hours 15 mins on screen time whereas with the S it is about 3 hours 45 minutes to 4 hours on screen time)
- better perceived quality and build quality
- much better processor
- faster and smoother (although this shouldn't be an issue when the X receives more updates to fix the problems)
- better audio
- better 1080P video recording quality (again both should be the same but the S video recording looks less jerkier than the X)

Essentially it will all come down to battery life, storage, size and price in the end. As always go and have a play with both, you may find the X to be just too big for daily use especially with one hand. The screen type IPS VS AMOLED is very much personal preference, the IPS has more natural colours whereas the SAMOLED has more vibrant/saturated colours, which some prefer along with pitch blacks and not a dull dark grey.

Also read through those threads or at least the last 5-10 pages that sim linked above there to see the issues that people are having with both phones.

EDIT:

And if you're interested here is my review of the one S:

Why can't you seem to close anything in ICS? I've got a Sensation and before the update I could close the browser but now it's always open regardless of how many times I hit back & even if I kill the internet & reopen it the People app comes back to life seemingly of it's own accord.

I'd not worry too much about the browser closing as it doesn't seem to have any effect on battery or memory and think the OS takes care or inactive programs. Don't go down the task killer road as it is a waste of time these days. If you left a load of 'tabs' open in the browser it might pull down resources but expect the OS would intervene at some point. You can close them from the new task manager by swiping them up off the screen.

BTW, to the one who asked One S or X. If your signal is less than strong then DO NOT get a One S. If signal is strong it is fine but if it drops a little then the One S drops like a stone into the -109dBm territory which is less than good. I've swapped my One S for another and even been back to HTC and although thought it was better at first, in reality it is the same. I'm in the process of composing a very strong letter to HTC on the matter  Can't comment on the One X. Everything else on the One S is pretty good and only reason it isn't on Ebay ..... yet!

Hmm, wasnt this addressed in the 1.78 update?

If you have developer options under System settings at the bottom there should be an option in the bottom of that menu for the back button :) (not sure if it is the same on HTC handsets!)

just updated my galaxy S2 with ice cream, so far so good.

still trying to work out the new bits

Remember to enable "force GPU rendering" under Developer options :)

Nope

HTC took mine back in to investigate and repair and all they did was update it to 1.78. Not really helped. Signal is maybe a little better but it still can't get reception in some areas where my Defy+ can. I'd not be bothered if the difference was small but it's not. I've read HTC One X owners suffering the same trouble.

That's strange, my X signal is absolutely excellent. Stronger than any of my other phones!

not sure if anyone can help me with this

prior to ICS, when i get a text (galaxyS2) and the text notifcation symbol appeared on the top, it would scroll the wording of the text

now, i have to unlock the phone and go in to text to read it

anyway to get the old system back on ICS

Upgraded to ICS a few days ago, since then i am unable to update my status on facebook. If i try the phone freezes the an error message saying facebook had stopped working. Strangely enough i can reply on other peoples status.
Anyone else having this problem ? I have uninstalled the facebook app and re installed it but it made no difference.
