UK stops Russian Cargo Ship

Off the coast of Scotland. Apparently carrying attack helicopters bound for Syria. Has anyone any more information? I just heard a short piece about it on Radio 4 News.

Has obviously sparked a diplomatic row.

Actually:

It said the cover was withdrawn because the owners of the ship had "broken internal rules" of the club - a mutual insurance association - and not on the instructions of the UK government.

the UK are happy to let Russia ship attack helicopters to Syria so they can kill their citizens..

This was being discussed earlier in the Syria thread, basically they are Syrian helicopters that were bought during the USSR era that were sent to Russia for servicing, they were being shipped back and the UK government *informed* the insurance company responsible that the ship was carrying illegal arms etc and that it violated sanctions against Syria so the company decided to revoke the insurance which means the ship will have difficulty docking at ports.

Technically the is nothing wrong with them being returned to Syria as they are legacy Syrian property not new arms shipments, but after the UK government put the wind up the insurance company they flew into overdrive to cover their behind before the facts could be established.
