Thinking of upgrading/selling my ati 6990 water-cool gpu to a 680 4gb, and also buy a water block for it, is the 4gb version worth it over the 2gb? I most probably will go SLI in the future.
Thanks.

For sli get a 4gb one, you need to mirror the ram so it'll really help with higher res/framerates and AA

How much do you expect to get for your 6990?

Not sure how much its worth, don't know if i should put the stock cooler fan back on and sell both 6990 and EK waterblock separately as i think not many people might be interested in a watercooled 6990.

Thanks guy will buy a 4GB version soon. Which brand would be best to buy? should i go for a popular brand name or as i am going to Watercool should i just look to buy the cheapest 4gb 680 i can find?

I would go 670 instead of 680 personally, particularly if going to SLI as the saving will be doubled

I personally would also not bother with 4GB at that resolution as by the time a game comes out that really warrants 4GB at that res there will be faster cards anyway, particularly if they pull their finger out and implement TXAA then all of this "must have 4xmsaa but need moah vram" will become less critical as well

I agree with andy. By the time > 2GB of VRAM is really required the 670/680 will be struggling for GPU power anyway.

It's a tough call though for a 1440 monitor as it could come sooner rather than later.

Tri sli to benefit from 4gb as you'll run out of Gpu power b4 vram, 2gb sli is more than enough for that res.
My res is 6040 x 1080 and don't have any vram issues with sli 2gb cards,as for future games who knows.

+1

4gb if you plan on tri sli, otherwise 2gb

How about 670 tri sli 4gb?

Okay i so decided to just get 2 of the 2GB version for sli setup but Which is the better option to go for,
680 standard clock for around £368 or 670 superclocked for around £333 each?
Thanks.

one of the 3 id get if price snd speed is what your after would be

KFA2 GeForce GTX 670 EX OC 2048MB = ocuk £329.99

(faster than most Non Reference cards and a lot cheaper..nearly the same as Asus GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU II TOP

if you want sli you can get a 2 card pack even cheaper (£325 per card) = £649.99 including free max payne game
sli pack

---------------------------------

Asus GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU II TOP 2048MB = ocuk £399.95

if you getting just one card you cant go wrong with this.
ocuk = £399.95 (check prices)
link

---------------------------------

2GB EVGA GTX 670 FTW around £330-40

these have very good warranty from Evga and blow air out throught teh back of the case nd not inside the case like the other 2

it is basically a gtx680 due to the clocks being the same and using the same pcb and fan/heatsink as the gtx680...rated as being only slightly slower than asus TOP edition 670 card...

but theres other cards too.....me im going for 2 cards too but im stuck between 2 EVGA FTW and 2 KFA2 GeForce GTX 670 EX OC :( i game at 1600p

these prices are not that far off what i paid for my gtx285's in 2008 :D

and i wouldnt go for the EVGA SC superclocks as they are not as good as the FTW also they cost a lot more than FTW for some reason.

Superclock edition also has smaller fan so is louder while FTW uses same fan/heatsink as gtx680 so is a lot quieter and better cooled
