Keeping Birds off Strawberries/Raspberries

So i've been looking forward to tucking into my new fruits all spring only to find they've been beaten by the birds

Other than netting which will look quite ugly in the garden, is there anything else I can do to savour some of hard work?

I've thought about a scarecrow?

This may sound gross but we do it are house. Pee into several bottles (pepsi bottles etc) and make sure the lid is on just enough to let the aroma come out and just leave them next to the strawberries works a treat.
