Pic: Your desk...RIGHT NOW

Might as well contribute, so here's my slightly cluttered desk

U27? I was so close to getting that over the U2412M but I couldn't justify the extra cost of buying a new GFX card too (for BF3). One day though...one day :p

Yeah, it was one of the batch that was a returned order and went cheap. Still BNIB so I think it was a bargain at £550 (back then anyway). I was just getting into photography then and the resolution has paid off bigtime, as have the beautiful colours. The AG coating is a bugger when trying to work out what's noise and what's just the coating at 100% though. Either way, it's a massive step up in quality from the rubbish acer monitor next to it.

I play BF3 on it with my 5850 and it's grand with a few settings tweaked btw.

How does it compare to your Hazro?

Having used the Dell for some time now I can say that I think the accuracy of the screen itself for colours and sharpness is higher than the Hazro and this is reflected by the reports in Lacie’s BlueEyePro calibration software.

For performance though they’re evenly matched. Great in games and great for movies.

The Hazro is a glossy panel though so blacks are a bit deeper on it but shadow details are a bit better on the Dell.

The area though where no other monitor can really beat the Hazro (not even Apple Cinema displays) is the casing itself. All Aluminium, coupled with the Ergotron Arm it feels and looks fantastic. Mine is one of the first revisions of the monitor so has a beta firmware onboard whjich Hazro never got round to updating sadly so I can’t adjust RGB values to fine tune calibration. They changed administration at some point and ditched all parts for this era of monitor so this screen is now some kind of time bomb, if/when it dies then that’s it!

The only other thing to note is that the Dell isn't glossy so exhibits the "snowy" effect as found on many IPS matte panel screens. This becomes invisible to the eye quickly but some will notice it first off.

Not bad at all for an e-IPS display (the Hazro is a higher end h-IPS) and it cost half the price of the Hazro.

It's the monitor that will make Lightroom breathe some sighs of relief :D

What BF3 settings do you use? I have a GTX570 and according to reviews it shouldn't be able to maintain high frames at native res with high settings. On the 24" it manages fine without FSAA but everything else max.

fps (it's the tiny graph at the bottom. The max limit is 70 fps so it's basically showing mid50s - 60fps. That was while on scrapmetal from the new CQ maps, which are supposed to be more demanding, but I can do longer tests if you like on different maps. The card is clocked at 950/1200

Dropping AA made it perfectly playable, but losing ambient occlusion guaranteed me no slowdown in really heavy scenes. Shadows is a big hit, but on a 570 you should be able to get by with it on.

Yeah AO is perfect on with the 570, that gives me hope then :D

Now if the Hazro were to die...I'd have an excuse! I shouldn't think such things though :p

My amazing setup! Hoping to get a new desk soon, as well as a computer to go with it when I can. In the process of tidying up, so it's not a true representation of what it usually looks like. A lot of the stuff is on the floor and bed at the moment. xD

Is that an ants next i see? More info and better pics?

They're Myrmica Rubra, red ants, known as European Fire Ants (yes, these ones sting). Most of the nest is hidden from me, even in such a slim farm so I'll see what I can do, I can get the tunnels and a few chambers from both sides and I'll be able to get some of the outworld (when I feed them). It's not very often you see the queen(s), so if you want to look at them you may be best off with a google search. :D

I mainly got them to look good on my desk, wish I'd gotten more workers as you don't really see them in the nest. I've kept ants a few times through school (Lasius Niger [common black ant] and Mymrica Rubra). I don't really have an interest in them anymore, only for them being something 'different' in my room. :P

Decided that I wanted a bigger desk.

The ones I found failed on at least 1 of 2 criteria, price and/or size.

So I went home-brew.

It's not finished yet but only started building this afternoon (when materials arrived). Still got the cable tunnel and proper monitor stand and then to cover it.

But here's what I got so far upto 7pm.

I would have kept working on it past 7pm but I don't want to upset the neighbours.

Holy...

Is that generic PC-Line desk? I have that! I don't use it (tube TV sits on it for no reason) but I have it. It seems so un-moddable :p

My current desk isn't cutting the mustard either, might go for an Ikea inspired huge-desk.

I've just finished assembling this! Still trying to work out the best seating/monitor angle as will need a MIDI keyboard soon to fit on the desk.
The left hand desk is a bit messy as I haven't finished that yet!

Also planning to get a K750 wireless keyboard as the wire spoils the neatness! (Ignore the wire on far left, that is being tidied as I finish off that side of the room! :D
