Hi,

I can get hands on few AMD Opteron quads 8 series from a friend for free... I was trying to find a motherboard that would fit them and failed pretty badly, preferably with 2+ CPU sockets, DDR2 with Sata 2... Dont mind used stuff any makes or models that I can look at?

P.S

I can get 2 series as well from him.

Thank you

You can get boards for those, they will be about £400 or so for a dual socket board unless you can find a used one.
Asus, Supermicro and Tyan would be recommended (the Tyan boards are excellent but a bit of a chore to get in the UK), quad socket boards cost more (Tyan S4989, for example, quad sockets but about £700 plus vat if you can find one).
Nforce professional 3600 chipset comes to mind, I dont think the 2200 chipset supports quads core cpus, but I may be wrong.
To be honest, why bother? said processors aren't that fast.

Yeah boards are too expensive :( If the 4 socket one was around 100 quid... It would be quite a powerful system with 4 of those CPU`s
