How do you know when to change car?

Just bought our latest car quite on a whim.

We are getting married next year so cars were on the backburner until after this. However we were just going into town but needed to fill my gf car up with Fuel. As she was doing this I was wandering around the car showroom attached.

Saw the A4 and in my opinion was a good price and an automatic which I was after. 2 days later I put the deposit down and hopefully picking up tomorrow or Wednesday.

I hope this car will keep me occupied for a while as it ticks most boxes, apart from it not being a big petrol engine but mileage would not allow it!

Roll on the next 24/48 hrs!

I change whenever I want to really (unless circumstances change), so long as its affordable and I haven't put too much into the current car in a short space of time.

Ill probably be paying off the civic early next year, keeping it and picking up something a bit more interesting, rwd and maybe without a roof . By the time I've had the car a year and a half ill be absolutely desperate to change - have never had anything that doesn't loose its initial charm after a few months....and I've had a lot ofreally quite different motors

I used to change as and when I wanted. This pretty much meant I was changing every 18 months. However this year I had to change/downgrade my car for practical reasons other than just feeling like a change. Thankfully I am hoping that I'll be able to keep my current commuter car and buy a second car towards the end of this year/2013. Running a diesel is slowly eating away at me; I miss owning a fast car so much :(

I change when I want a new toy or get bored
ushualy involves me looking for the replacement ,then finding the way to pay for it,then discussing it with SWMBO, her telling me it your money do what you want, to me arriving home with new car/ bike/ computer/ model aeroplane/helicopter.
Once I've convinced myself to buy anything I more or less get it.

bullit

When I can afford something better or when a bill pops up that is not worth it.

I'd want to change car every year but I can't afford that :(.

First car rusted away so the decision was made for me. Second car I could afford something quicker and be able to insure it so I thought why not. Next change will probably be due to a change of circumstances.

I'm starting to want to change, but there is nothing newer that I want to change to and my car hasnt really given me a reason to either

The only car I'd change it to is a Mazda 3 MPS but I would just regret the running costs and I dont need that much power

Edit, pre facelift Z4's are so ugly, remind me of a dead fish

It's simple for me. Every few months I ask myself "do I own Yaris?". If the answer's yes, time to change car!

Lol!:) Flawless logic process.

Before changing to my current car I'd been 'thinking about it' and researching for a few months. When it got to the stage of staring at 'the one' on Ebay for almost a week twitching and dribbling, I knew it was time to buy. I suspect you're nearly there, but maybe not quite yet:).

Anyway, I change when I have the money to buy something that's genuinely better for it's purpose than what I have (and when I can actually insure it).

I feel that it is when I start to go onto Autotrader/Ebay/Wherever almost every day and have to rationalise with myself before deciding not to call the dealer to discuss P/X options.

I got rid of my Focus because I was bored of it after 6 months, lasted a further 6 months before selling. I've yet to have that problem with my current car after 2.5 years. :)
