A British man is facing the death penalty in the United Arab Emirates, the Foreign Office has confirmed.

A local news report claimed the unnamed Briton is a 21-year-old, who was sentenced in Abu Dhabi alongside a 19-year-old Syrian man for selling an undercover police officer 20g (0.7oz) of cannabis worth 1,500 UAE Dirhams (£262).

A BIT OTT?

Whilst its harsh its the law over in the UAE.

High risk, high reward which im sure the offender new. Hence the price for 20g is considerably more than over here.

I'm pretty anti the death penalty, but in cases like this you know the rules and you really shouldn't break them. I very much doubt he'll get the death penalty, but I won't be losing any sleep over him.

death penalty is always wrong no matter what the rules, but he needs to go to jail, supplying drugs is illegal in most countries anyway, what an idiot to do it in an arab one

Wishing death upon a young man for selling a minute amount of a drug that isn't much worse than alcohol. Way to go people of the Internet.

I should clarify. I have no problem with him being jailed. After all he broke the law.

I absolutely don't agree with the death penalty, but you have to be off your proverbial box to go to this sort of country and break the law in this way knowing full well what the penalty is going to be.

Stupid man. Stupid law.

He knew the rules.
He was playing fire and no doubt the reward (financial gain), would've been great.
He got caught and he must pay the consequences.
I feel sorry for the guy, though. Imagine losing your life for the sake of a 20g cannabis deal.
