I want to hurt someone at Virgin Media or Scottish and Southern Energy

Last week (19th) Scottish and Southern Energy decided to cut through the cables that provide my cable internet (50Mb) service. Thanks SSE.
After 5 days of ringing VM and having engineer after engineer cancelled because the fault has been identified and fixed, I finally got an engineer visit yesterday.
His diagnosis? The cables that supply my house have been cut! Thanks!

So, on to today, I just got a call from VM to say that they can't send anyone to fix it until 11th July.

SSE say it's not their problem as they only notify gas, water or electricity suppliers if they damage their cables, not internet. They also say it's Virgin's problem that it's taking so long to fix and so are not interested in compensating me or anything.

I've tried the calm "Please help me I'm in a bad situation that isn't my fault" approach with VM. I've also tried the "If it isn't fixed by tomorrow or I don't get a sooner engineer visit then I'll be cancelling my service" approach. Neither have had the desired effect.

No idea what to do now. I think I'll just cancel my service as I can get BT Infinity installed in under 7 days and be back online.

drive to the nearest VM callcentre and raise it to the ground, I'd personally suggest making the effort and torching the Bellshill office(my old one)

Wow, I just got a call from one of the engineers at Virgin. He said he could see there was a bunch of rubbish going on internally with my issue and he's sorted out the politics.
Engineer coming tonight or tomorrow to lay new cables. Even gave me his mobile number to call if it doesn't get fixed.
Top!

I bet you that's the only decent engineer they have on staff thats worth a dam and he wont last long :D

In my opinion, company engineers are the ones who give a damn, and the telephone staff are just bothered about what to buy with their next wage.

I cut my cable digging up my front garden. I was on the phone giving the girl at vm a hard time when the penny dropped and I realised it was my bad :o They said they couldn't come out for a couple of weeks so I fixed it myself in the mean time. It's just high grade satellite cable so I fixed up some F connectors a put a small length between the break.

Make sure you treat him well, so that way you'll always have a reliable VM engineer ready to call.

Not sure why you're complaining. Its surely grounds to cancel and sign up for the superior BT service. :P

When we had our front drive paved the Cabletel/NTL line got ripped out from the house to the road as they were terrible. Parents have never gone back to cable. Do they still use these cables as the new owners might get a shock when they find there is no actual line to the house :)

Well, I spoke too soon. It's Friday evening and no engineer and no internet service.
Day 11 without a connection complete.......

wow! VM is rubbish, they are quite unreliable, I was also facing problems, they said my router was NOT the issue... 2 months later... They sent an engineer, he said the router WAS working. Did not recieve a replacement for 8 days, then they tried to take £50 from my dads bank account..

To be fair SSE are dicks. I went to a job where they cut through the cable and the guy rang up VM. They arranged a call for the next morning between 8 and 12. The customer told SSE and they agreed to go there after 12 to tarmac.

Needless to say I turn up at 8:30 and they had just laid new tarmac. And unfortunately we don't have the ability to dig the tarmac :(
