Hey,

Looking at the Macbook Air range, I have a gaming rig but looking for something small I can use around the house for internet only, I've looked at the iPad but not really interested in them as I would like a keyboard.

Are they worth it for what you get for your money?

Any input appreciated:)

For casual web browsing on a laptop, if you can afford it, the macbook air is probably the best around; purely for the gestures available on the touchpad. For casual use it's by far and away the best touchpad out there.

Yeah, but you can get something that does the job for 1/2 the price. Although if you want the real thing, it's extremely hard to beat. Backlit, screen and track pad top notch.

11' notebook with i3 / E350, with a SSD. Head to the laptop section, there are plenty of dicussions on the matter.

Significantly bigger and if it's anything like the netbooks of old (and the E350 will be) not in the same league tbh.

The 11" Air or Asus UX21 would be a good bet OP if you want something tiny and with a keyboard.

Value for money and "best" do not equal the same thing.

Yes, they are lovely. To get anything comparable you need to spend at least as much elsewhere.

If you can afford it get one, if you can't then maybe consider Apple refurbished as there are sometimes good discounts to be had.

That said, for just doing a bit of Internet an iPad is great. I'm pretty quick with the onscreen keyboard these days, you can also hook up a Bluetooth keyboard for any serious typing - but not as easy to juggle the two sat on a sofa versus say a MacBook air.

For internet browsing you should have just manned up and got an iPad! Mr T would call you a crazy fool for spending 1k on an internet browsing beast! Those air books are beautiful though, the finish is second to none.

Because not all windows laptops are ******? Unfortunately people like you seem to think the only windows laptops are the £400 POS you get in purple shirt land. ;)

I've gone for the exact same spec too, ordered it last Monday (25th), initially I was told that delivery should be 2-4 July but now it states the 5th. Don't seem to be able to track it yet though even though it was dispatched last Wednesday. Apparently it has to be merged with my £70 back to school voucher that came with it. Anyone got any idea how acurate apple are with their estimated delivery times?

I'm like a kid at christmas at the moment, got a 1tb external hd and a nice bag turning up tomororw too :D

nice purchase m8. I got one with the same spec too

What do you use it for? Just wondering how virtual machine performs running Windows 7. I need the VM so I can test dev work in IE.

I've done so much research my head is going to explode. It's been down to the MBA and Sony Z series - the latter has the nice HD display but it comes at a substantial cost.

I also like playing around in Photoshop and After Effects but need the portability of the Air. So wondering if the i5 + 8GB will suffice or if I should go for the i7 (which gets a little hot I've heard).

Just about to install Windows 7 in VMWare. will let you know how it preforms. But I only use windows to run some software that's not available for macs. Its my main machine so normal everyday tasks, email, videos, web browsing etc. I love the very fast bootup! and applications are very snappy and fast.

My previous machine is a 2009 MacBook pro which was getting quite sluggish. I realise the problem is the HDD and could have just installed a SSD. But my reasons for getting the 13" MBA are
1) I wanted apple care with it, the MBP applecare just ran out
2) USB3
3)will be travelling quite abit in a few months so something more portable to take with me. Again Applecare as am very paranoid with it breaking down.
4)working part time in a university so got it with HE discount :D
