Whos staying on Win7 and whos going to Win8?

...ahhh. I forgot about the change thing......that said was a bit of a surprise for me to start with and took a wee while (10 mins i think) to find stuff again, but I like the changed look

I'll be moving to Windows 8 as soon as it's released. I've found that it pays in the long term for me to become familiar with new Windows OSes as soon as they come out. I have to support customers who may buy a new PC with it pre-installed, and I've been caught out in the past with Vista.

8 seems to be a push into Mobile markets and as far as I can see offers very little for the desktop PC user over 7. I see no reason to jump until it's required (DirectX version is not supported in 7 any more for example)

I will be on 7 for the foreseeable future.

I've allready moved over to win8 and have been for months and months. In October or when ever release is, I'll be buying win8, win8tablet, win8phone and when they release one a win8rt pc on a stick.

For those saying they won't move yet until forced, you're better off just doing it. Otherwise in a year or two you'll have to pay full price, rather than a great pre1order deal.

I will be sticking with windows 7, but i would love a crystal ball to see if MS go back to the more traditional ui for windows 9 or if the metro style is here to stay; I suppose a lot depends on how successful win 8 is ..?

They won't go back to traditional desktop in a million years. Forget that idea it simply won't happen.
Metro is here to stay and in win9 it's likely to be even more integrated. Metro is based around an extremely profitable and secure Eco system.
If you really don't like metro, just look at it, as a much improved full screen start menu, which you hardly ever have to deal with.

You don't need a crystal ball to work this out.

As more and more people/companies use win8 mobile devices it makes sense for companies to use win8(or win9 as lots have only just upgrade)

hmm lets see

Win 2000 = ok
Win Me = poop
Win Xp = ok
Vista = poop
Win 7 = ok
Win 8 = ?

I think I will skip this one if the pattern holds true

What complete and utter tosh. For a start you've got the OS's out of sequence, WinME does not feature in the same product path as the other ones as it was based on Windows 95 and NOT on Windows NT.
So, let us just display a proper list using the correct product path:

Windows 2000 - Excellent leap from NT4 and Night/Day with the 9x line.
Windows XP - Based largly on the 2000 code and optomised for home users.
Vista - Excellent step forward. "Hated" by those that don't like progress (Still running XP now). Was proved to be great OS when all Vista signs were removed and people gave it a blind test.
Windows 7 - Another step forward and perfect "out of the box".

So now we have a correct run through the product lines we see a much different potential outcome for 8.

Vista - hated by those due to companies not making drivers, after 12 months and companies got drivers out, compatible software it was an extremely good Os and far better than XP

Glaucus I think you are the biggest fanboi on the whole of OcUk :D

:D
I don't class my self as a fan boi, but I can understand. As i've said before I use what fulfills most of my criteria. Currently that's apple tablet/phone and android pc on a stick, windows on desktop. Win8RT and even win8x86 will fullfill far more of my needs, than anything out there ATM.

I'm still running Vista on my home PC, nearly 4 years now of running perfectly.:D When i do next reformat I will not be going to windows 8 though, unless I can easily disable metro

As unpopular an opinion it may be, I agree with Glaucus. I held onto Windows XP for as long as I could, but when I was finally forced to move to Vista by Microsoft (they made one of their remote management tools Vista only) it didn't take long to realise that Vista was better. It's my honest opinion that most of the issues people had were caused by outdated hardware. When Vista came out, the overwhelming majority of home PC were single core and less than 2GB RAM. That was fine for XP (which was already 5 years old at the time), but not enough for Vista. By the time Windows 7 came out, even the cheapest landfill available on the high street had a dual core processor and 3GB+ of RAM, so when people finally upgraded they were making a massive step up.

Definitely not on main pc, will just annoy me

Maybe on Htpc depending on price, but I like wallpapers

win8 is all over the place, itll take some getting used to,metro is god awfull, main reason id try it was of the supposedly improved perfomance ect

I'll hang on to Windows 7 till I have to move on.
Done it with the other versions as well. If it's still doing what you need it to do, why move ?

Going to stick with Windows 7 for the time being. I really don't use my Windows laptop often enough to make the switch worthwhile.
