What are your views on the Lord of the Rings film trilogy? I remember going to see them in the cinema and being blown away. Probably my favourite trilogy along with The Godfather.

Good films, to long not films I watch over and over. Probably watched them twice and probably won't watch them again for ages. Looking forward to the hobbit though.
Godfather was pretty rubbish. One of those cult films where people lie about how they really think, in case of the massive back lash. Be it Internet or from you mates.

Probably my favourite three films ever. Much like reflux, watch them at least once a year, usually three of four times though, fully extended with all behind the scenes stuff.

I thought it was an awesome technical achievement, and I was absolutely stunned by the first one when I saw it in the cinema, but I was quite disappointed with TTT and TROTK due to the changes Peter Jackson made to the story - most notably Faramir deciding to take the ring to Gondor, and the undead army just sweeping through Gondor and saving the day. The Elves joining the battle at Helm's Deep was also stupid - The Last Alliance was called The LAST Alliance for a reason. These changes downplayed the strength of Men in overcoming insurmountable odds.

Absolutely amazing set of films!! I can remember counting down the days to December 16th (I think) each year in anticipation!! Always came out of the cinema blown away at just how good they were!
Always thought the second one was the best Two Towers :)

Hmm might have to watch these tomorrow now lol

Quality films. I've recently watched all the special extra's with the DVD's (interviews & how they made the films). I was honestly blown away with the effort, time and money that goes into making these films. Incredible.

It's been a while since i either watched the films or read the books, so i couldn't really give a concrete opinion now. But i saw them when i was quite young, so they are some of my 'benchmark films' that i compare everything else to.

The one thing i would say is that LOTR has always been about a struggle between good and evil, a very distinctive line drawn between them. Since getting into ASOIAF that seems a bit... well, i don't know how to put it actually.

I think they're fantastic. They're a huge milestone and achievement in modern film, especially for the fantasy genre.

I'm always amazed at the amount of work that went into those films and the overall sense of comradery that you see from the actors and production staff when watching the appendices/behind the scenes stuff. You can tell that these people were really invested both physically and mentally in the trilolgy, and it was more than any old big budget blockbuster to be produced and make a profit at the box office. It really shows in the finished product i think, and it makes all the difference in my opinion.

It's probaly my favourite trilogy of all time and I watch them atleast twice a year. They were such groundbreaking films when it came to cgi some of the battles are just awe-inspiring. I still use them as a benchmark for current cgi epics.

I cannot wait for the hobbit as I always preferred that to lotr.

Loved all 3 movies, have them on blu ray and watched them not too long ago. The special effects/cgi was out of this world i thought.

Saying that i only read the books earlier this year and found that a lot of the stuff in the book was left out ie Tom Bombadil for instance, he had a pretty big part in the book but was largely ignored in the movies, in fact never made an appearance unless i missed him. But i could see why they left out certain parts, the movies would have gone on forever if they had put every little thing in the book into the movie.

Im looking forward to the Hobbit which is out later this yr if im not mistaken...that again looks epic and this time ive read the book a couple of times so will be interesting to see how well they stick to the book.

Absolutely love the LOTR trilogy. I've bought theatrical and extended edtion boxsets on dvd and theatrical boxset on blu ray, yet to quadruple dip by getting the extended edition blu ray boxset but it's top of my 'to be purchased list.'

Haven't watched the trilogy in a while as I've been waiting until I can watch the blu ray extended versions, was hoping for a price drop but it looks as though £40 is as low as it's going for now, still pretty good value for well over 9hrs worth of viewing, not to mention hours of extras/special features.

Totally epic movies, probably the first movie trilogy i watched that actually made me think how large a scale the whole story was. From the shire to mordor! Just epic. Although Sam and Frodo's relationship was a tad homo erotic i could see past that and concentrate on the epic movies.

Didn't like some of the changes, and they missed 1-2 good bits (although some of those are added back in the extended editions) but out of any movie adaption of a book they are the most like how you imagined it would be when reading the books and pretty epic as movies go.

A bit like the original star wars - started off brilliantly, then got even better then suddenly by the end of the third it all went amazingly ****.
