I lost almost 3 stone in about 8 months (no gym) a couple years ago and it stayed off.

What changed?

I stopped eating bread regularly, 1 bacon sandwich on Friday!
I don't have KFC anymore.
I colorie count religiously.
Lean meat and veg was basically all I had, twice a week I have some rice

Once your body get used to not eating the junk and break the cycle, your craving for bad food goes away.

I lost 2 and a half stone about 18 months ago, and put on most of it again. I used the Atkins diet, and found it killed my hunger pains completely.

I now eat very healthily and I don't want to go down that route again - although I could.

I have two slices of wholemeal toast in the morning with 2 poached eggs. I have some greek yoghurt with a teaspoon of jam in the morning for a snack, 500ml of homemade veg soup for lunch along with a chicken and mayo salad sandwich, and for dinner I have meat and 2 veg, and another bowl of soup.

My downfall is severe hunger pains at night to the point where I have to eat.

I need to take some time to work out if I'm eating too few calories, or if it's something medical. I'm off to see the doc this week so I'll ask him.

I am also trying to walk to burn the calories - but I now have a very sore foot, so I'm going to need to buy decent trainers and again ask the doc about that.

I'm not asking.. we were just talking in the Picture of yourself thread and I thought it was way off topic and it was best in a separate thread so we didn't drown out everything else.

Ditch the bread and eat more protein. Also drink more water, many people think they are having hunger pains whn in fact it is thirst that is affecting them.

I lost 11 stone in 14 months with a combination of diet and exercise....lots of exercise. I eat plenty of lean meat, veg, potatoes and drink at least 2-3 litres of water every day. I limit bread (bread has over 100kcals per slice and even wholemeal is so carb heavy that you cannot burn the glycogen before it turns to fat unless you are exercising regularly and either just prior to or shortly after eating it) and rice in my diet. Fresh, non processed foods, and keep your blood sugar as stable as possible, so eat little and often unless you are going to do a load of exercise, and then it may be better to eat larger meals less regularly depending on your personal affectation.

Careful with fruits with high sugar contents, and root veggies with high Carb content. Eat when you are hungry, but only until you are not hungry any more...not until you are full.

I lost a couple stone by doing alternate day fasting. Also known as Eat Stop Eat. Like yourself, it worked, but I wouldn't do it again.

I feel you with your midnight cravings. Get them myself. For me it's all about self control. Yes, I'm hungry. No, I don't *have* to eat. I'll just feel hungry until I go to bed, but then the next day I wake up fine.

For me it's all in the mind. I now refuse to eat any and all junk food at work (people bring in doughnuts and cookies). A little pain for a little gain, and a good feeling of sticking to your guns.

Subscribed :D

I noticed I have gained weight after getting hitched and also stopped going to the gym around the same time. :(

As for decent trainers, I got a pair of Skechers a month of two ago and they are really comfy.

Could a passing mod copy/move my posts from that thread to this one? I'm going to bed and exhausted :)

If they haven't done it by the morning, I'll do it.

It's hovis wholemeal bread so it's not as bad as it might be...

However what do you suggest I have for breakfast? I do enjoy the eggs. Preferably something easy to cook.

I do drink a lot of water, although I probably stop when I finish work. I'll try drinking glasses of water through the evening and see what happens.

Eat lean meats, veg/fruit/nuts get some good fats in you (omega from fish/nut), have a cheat meal in the week, drink plenty of water.

Exercise with Cardio HIIT/Weights, it is that simple, you get fat from eating like a pig and not burning off excess calories.

Just eat the eggs. Scrambled with some tomatoes and mushrooms. Drink a pint of water before you go to bed, or eat an apple.

If you eat bread in the morning, don't eat bread for lunch and vice versa.

Well, I'm doing most of that Cheets - although I don't feel I've really started yet, I'm just trying stuff out to see what works.

I eat a huge amount of fruit/veg now - way over my 5 a day. I don't eat any nuts. I eat fish sometimes. I have a cheat lunch on a friday (half a portion of doner meat + chips), and if I'm out on a night out or whatever I'll have a cheat meal then.

I do drink plenty of water - but I'l start drinking more at nights now.

I know why I get fat.. and I know I need to burn more and eat less calories. :)

However I have health problems that make exercise difficult, but not impossible. So I need to find something I can always do. I have a cycling machine and sometimes I'm able to do that for 15 minutes a day, much of the time I'm not able to. I started walking 2.5 miles a day home from work, but I got shin splints which got worse daily and my foot now hurts more than it ever did - I took a week off last week because I was working 9am to 10pm 5 days. I'll start back after next week. I'm going to see the docs this week about my foot and I'll buy decent trainers this week in town.

I started getting a box of fruit and veg delivered every week. The rule is that I eat everything in it. Because of that I don't have a frozen pizza or lasagne or chips etc.

I'm also, I think, going to start getting stuff from Graze to pad me out through the day and for something in the evening.

I'll drop it for breakfast - it's difficult making a lunch that doesn't include a sandwich.

Scrambled with tomatoes/mushrooms/peppers/etc I could probably do. But it doesn't appeal to me in the same way.

I'll give it a shot and see if I can tolerate it.

For me, I never set a target, I didn't weight myself everyday, I weight myself once or twice a week. In my phone I have a photos over the duration of the weight on the scales, it went from almost 15st and to 11st 12 (last weight was 12st 1 a week ago). Lowest was 11st 8 (had food poisoning, unrelated lol)

Waist went from 36" now 30".

Rule 1 - I cut out junk food, but I still have a bit of chocolate now and again. If I do, I buy a bar of dark chocolate and have a square and put the rest away.

Rule 2 - I lowered the carb intake considerably.

Rule 3 - I calorie count, I still do, I did it a little extreme though. I hardly ate that much in the day, I was at work so being busy keep my mind off things and I have fruit for breakfast and then salad for lunch. In dinner I can pretty much eat normal, sometimes I even have pasta. Up to 800/900 cal. I also don't snack.

I am not as strict anymore but i still try to eat healthy. I will have a packet of crisps once in month or something. I have a burger king once a couple of months too. I eat a lot of ice cream though lol I make them myself :p

On a typical day i eat

Breakfast - Piece of pastry (lol i know!) + coffee
Lunch - Salad or soup, sometimes both, or with fruit.
Dinner - Soup with some meat then either some fruit or ice cream.

I rarely, RARELY eat anything in between.

If i am hungry in the evening I get a piece of fruit. If I want something fizzy i drink the diet version. If I want sugar in my coffee I put in sweetener. Basically, stay away from processed food. I also do strange things, if I buy a muffin I give away the bottom half, since I prefer the top half. When i buy chocolate at work I offer loads away, I only want enough to satisfy the craving and by giving most of it away it means not only i satisfied the craving, i also not eaten that much calories.

The 30" jeans still fit so i am doing something right!

Disclaimer, I am not a dietician nor a doctor, this is merely my experience.

Aye, cutting down on bread is a nightmare.....be careful of processed meats and added sugars to things like chicken breasts as well.....portion control is a big thing as well as calorie control. It's tedious at first but gets easier as you get into a routine.

That's what I try to do as well Raymond, however your starting weight is my target weight pretty much. Even when I was thin/skinny I wasn't a small guy. I had a 28 inch waist when I was 18 and I weighed I think 13 1/2 stone. I'm 6 foot and if I was in proper health I'd be intimidating. :p

Anyway, I do try to do what you do, but I couldn't eat as little as that. I'd be in physical pain. However even if I manage to eat what I'm eating I should lose weight.

I reckon I'm on about 400 for breakfast, 400 for lunch and 600 for dinner. Leaving me about 600 for fruit and other snacks (including the yoghurt) during the day. If I eat 2K calories then I should lose weight reasonably fast. The figures are rough because I've not really started yet.

Oh, during the peak of it, I was losing roughly about 1 to 2Ibs a week. Went to see my friends in another town and then went back again a couple of months' later and we went to a chineses buffet for lunch along with my friend's brother. I ate 2 plates full of food (meat and veg, no deep fried stuff) and had to pee afterwards. The brother said "I'll come with you Raymond"

...."okay" I said.

It turns out later on that my friends thought I was bulimic and went to the loo to do the 2 fingers as I had lost that much weight that quickly!
