Hey guys,

I'm trying to build a kick ass office PC for my accountant Dad. He wants a PC that he won't have to upgrade for a long time.
He's a big simultaneous app user which is why I went for the i7, RAM and SSD.
Here's what I came up with:

Any opinions, bad choices, better options etc? budget is roughly £1200 but if it's borderline big wins, he'll pay more.

Look forward to hearing your opinions.

Tristan

He tells me he often has an accounts program, payroll program, several excel spreadsheets, word documents, outlook, iTunes etc all open at the same time.
He's impatient, doesn't want to be waiting for apps to load etc.

He's running Win 7 Ultimate btw.

No need for i7,

Even the i3 will run through that easily. As the programs aren't demanding atall.

To make it fast, all you really need is an SSD. That will enable fast loading into windows and programs opening quickly.

8GB of RAM will help this too.

Will come to about half of the intended budget.

EDIT:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Crucial RealSSD M4 256GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive (CT256M4SSD2) £191.99

1 x Intel Core i3-2120 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £99.95

1 x TeamGroup Elite 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED38192M1600HC11DC) £35.99
1 x Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/AM2+/AM3/LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366) £24.12
1 x OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £15.98

Haven't included keyboard, that's a personal choice.

The cooler is just to make it cool and quiet, as you can't overclock and why would you with an office machine.

Given that price isn't the issue can you rework that spec to the best he can buy for that money? There's £500 left in that budget.

Looks like an interesting build, thanks.
One thing I forgot to mention, he wants quite a few USB ports. I'm not sure what peripherals he's using but he said that was important.

Do you have any alternative mobo ideas? also have you used Team Group Elite RAM before? I've never heard of it.

There is already 6 on the back and 4 on the front with that spec. You could drop the keyboard in favour of one with integrated USB or use an actualy USB hub if it needs power.

USB ports, the case has 4 on the top and the motherboard has 6 on the back.

If you do want more though this may be a good idea: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-031-NX&groupid=701&catid=1428&subcat=1429

Add's another 4 ports.

Never used the RAM myself though there are a well respected company who have been 'out of the lime light' (as it were) for a while.
