Best looking aircraft?

Has to be the F-117A, without a doubt.

Edit: I don't think one person has said the same. I am disappoint.

I love the sound of prop engined aircraft and there are far too many that I like so here are five of my favourites in no particular order.

after reading the SR-71 wiki, i have now changed my mind about aircraft :D

Similarly, the fuselage panels were manufactured to fit only loosely on the ground. Proper alignment was only achieved when the airframe heated up and expanded several inches. Because of this, and the lack of a fuel sealing system that could handle the thermal expansion of the airframe at extreme temperatures, the aircraft would leak JP-7 jet fuel on the runway. At the beginning of each mission, the aircraft would make a short sprint after takeoff to warm up the airframe, then refuel before heading off to its destination.

Are unmanned aircraft worth a mention?

Everyone has lamented the tragic demise of the American space program but, nice and quietly, the Yanks are streaking ahead of the rest of the world. Again. Unless we get there first with the Sabre and Skylon. For those following the story, the second phase of testing successfully completed in Oxfordshire a couple of days ago. Things are looking up (pun).

Commanche

Was going to be the apache replacement, until the us of a ditched it. :(

Yes they spent a small fortune on something that wouldnt have carried as much payload, as fast or resiliant as the Apache and when you can really hug the terrain what is the point of a stealth attack helicopter?

It is nice but not financially feasible.

1 - Lancaster (Upkeep modded)
2 - Spitfire
3 - Vulcan
4 - Typhoon (the new jet one)
5 - Saab Grippen

Quite difficult picking 5...loads of really nice aircraft out there.

Also really like the Cessna 152.....as that's what I am learning to fly in :D

F-117A
AC-130 Spectre
B2 bomber
F-14
Vulcan (I remember seeing this at an air show when Iw as a child, damn that was an immense moment)
A-10 thunderbolt II
F4 Phantom
Harrier Jump jet
SR-71

 that's just a flyable capsule, it's not a SSTO like the Sylon, it's also tiny. It still requires a massively expensive rocket to get it up there. I don't even get the point. Compared to a casual it wastes a load of space and weight on the rocket and the benefit is? Doesn't get water damage so needs marganly less reconditioning before next flight at the cost of all those extra parts, fuel and wasted space, which will cost more to lift on a conventional rocket. So I wonder what it's purpose is for, as it's milliatry and they've never said what it is for.

it was never a replacement for the apache. It was meant as a replacement for AH-1 and OH-58. Its main job was to find and designate targets for the apache. It was pretty stealthy as it had the radar cross section of a hellfire missle or 250 times less than an apache. Sad it never made it into service life.

It seems there is an echo in the room:
It was never going to be a replacement for the AH-64 variants. It was always designed to be a reconnaissance helicopter, with some attack capability. The Apache vastly out guns the Comanche.

:p

Any takers on the Victor! :)

Yes - it was on my list earlier in the thread and I was surprised there were not more fans :)

The F-111 is a beast. I used to see them often in the Highlands and they always got the "brown adrenaline" flowing. Big and loud!
