Similarly, the fuselage panels were manufactured to fit only loosely on the ground. Proper alignment was only achieved when the airframe heated up and expanded several inches. Because of this, and the lack of a fuel sealing system that could handle the thermal expansion of the airframe at extreme temperatures, the aircraft would leak JP-7 jet fuel on the runway. At the beginning of each mission, the aircraft would make a short sprint after takeoff to warm up the airframe, then refuel before heading off to its destination.

, the Yanks are streaking ahead of the rest of the world. Again. Unless we get there first with the Sabre and Skylon. For those following the story, the second phase of testing successfully completed in Oxfordshire a couple of days ago. Things are looking up (pun).[/QUOTE]
 that's just a flyable capsule, it's not a SSTO like the Sylon, it's also tiny. It still requires a massively expensive rocket to get it up there. I don't even get the point. Compared to a casual it wastes a load of space and weight on the rocket and the benefit is? Doesn't get water damage so needs marganly less reconditioning before next flight at the cost of all those extra parts, fuel and wasted space, which will cost more to lift on a conventional rocket. So I wonder what it's purpose is for, as it's milliatry and they've never said what it is for.
Yes they spent a small fortune on something that wouldnt have carried as much payload, as fast or resiliant as the Apache and when you can really hug the terrain what is the point of a stealth attack helicopter?
It is nice but not financially feasible.

It seems there is an echo in the room:it was never a replacement for the apache. It was meant as a replacement for AH-1 and OH-58. Its main job was to find and designate targets for the apache. It was pretty stealthy as it had the radar cross section of a hellfire missle or 250 times less than an apache. Sad it never made it into service life.
It was never going to be a replacement for the AH-64 variants. It was always designed to be a reconnaissance helicopter, with some attack capability. The Apache vastly out guns the Comanche.
