For a long time now i've had chest pain in and out of hospital and they've given me so much medication and change of diet i never believed that it was still heartburn. I was on such a strong dose of anti acid medication i should not be getting it!. The pain was so intense at times that i had to have daily pain medication and couldn't enjoy my life, it was like having a heart attack every night :(. This isn't the same pain level as a oooh i've got bad heartburn!. It was even affecting my bowls. Well finally after two years of messing about and waiting I went into hospital on wednesday to have two endoscopies!, one to see if any damage was done and two to place the ph monitoring device in my gullet area. I had to be sedated due to me having it done twice and they had to place the probe, it was rather painful to eat food but it had to be done.

The GOOD news is that my 10 ulcers have healed up :D

I've been off heartburn medication for about a week now but the chest pain continues and now i can actually feel the heartburn, it doesn't matter what i eat and what i do, i feel it. Water = Heartburn, anything that i take i'm on a strict diet and everything afterwards instant burn and chest pain. I have a PH monitor attached to me that gives a read out and i have to write in my diary.

The instant i belch it drops to 1.2PH, Sitting down at lowest it's about 3.2 to 6.1 it's usually better when I walk about but the levels are up down like a yo yo. So pretty much every night my acidity levels were burning my gullet and i never believed it. Hopefully this all gets sorted and i can get on with my life .

The lower the ph more acid, high the ph more alkaline

Good news!

I have images of a small printer attached to your chest rolling out readings every now and then :p

Cant say too much about my similar experience without it being seen as medical advice. **edit** -- You currently ungergoing the 24hr PH test? In which case sounds like you are on the required route to where you need to go. I am guessing you may come back in a couple of weeks saying you have been listed for an operation.

And i jest, but lol @ your sedation - Man up :p I've had countless endoscopies, the pH monitoring (for 24hrs) and a similar one up the nose and into the stomach for pressure monitoring all with no sedation :p

BDEE I think having three previous endoscopes with no throat spray or sedation puts me in the man up zone ;), Only this time I had to have sedation and wanted it as well. Two endoscopes one after another within the period of each other and I had to be calm for them to attach the ph probe, I'm sleeping thanks!.

p.s Some people don't even get past the first stage camera in the gob lol :)

Thanks all, tomorrow is the end of the 1st 48hr test, then I go on to the 2nd 48hr test... Currently my chest is on fire, a number of times i've belched up acid with such severity it was as if i drank bleach.

1.2PH :(

Went to bed finally about 2.30 onwards and woke up at 7.30 feeling terrible, I was in so much pain and i wanted to be sick. I could feel the intense burning in the area of the pill, the area that has caused me so much issue over the years even on a lot of medication.

Checked my ph probe 1.7ph that's actually in my gullet not my stomach :(

The actual ph of a stomach ranges from 1-4ph but this is usually after a high protein meal so for me to have no food from midnight, going to bed at 2.30am and waking up with a ph level of 1.7 in my gullet on an empty stomach isn't so great. Good ph readings in this area is about 6.6-7.4ph which is usually walking about but it soon drops sitting, laying or sleeping especially
