I think your last one was very special
It was indeed!

I am going to have to test this chip in my Z68 board.
I accept that this chip will not ever come close to my last one, but I am getting odd behaviour when overclocking, such as Prime simply closing, rather than giving and error or BSOD.
And talking of BSOD, am used to seeing one or two and those are 101 or 24 (I think), but getting all sorts of BSOD when OCing that I never encountered when pushing chips previously.
Anyway, that's a task for tomorrow. Tired and done enough stupid stuff for one day already...
Still tempted to delid mine, even after Eyetrip's accident :L
Will get a good nights sleep before doing it though LOL.
Prime95 shutting down = more volts or you need to drop clock
mine won't even run Prime95 at 48 multi
Will take pic tomorrow.
I actually made things worse I think. I did somehow manage to get the system to power up, but was using the stock heatsink while putting in/taking out, and I must not have put things on very well last time I tried, cause I got burning smell and bit of smoke and sizzling!!!!!
Removed and defo burned the chip, so if it wasn't dead before, well it certainly was after that.
But I am worried about my board. I thought earlier I had this running at 4.8 with 1.26V, but turns out I had not set the all cores things, so was actually not running anywhere near 4.8.
I need to do a bunch of stability testing with things at stock first to be sure I have not stuffed my board as well now, but I can say that it's not even looking good for 4.7 at 1.3V
What was I thinking? Stupid, stupid thing to do - and that means just about everything I have done today. I shouldn't touch computers when not slept well.
Lesson learned? Yeah, but looking like it's going to be a very costly one
Maybe I should just stick to laptops, where I can't fiddle with anything.
no way! youve been so helpful with my green ramwill you get another chip? RMA it back to intel, did you get retail?
Man this chip sucks in comparison to my last.
4.8 is simply a no go, and currently trying around 4.75, but on 1.392V, and while a brief run of prime small fft's doesn't error, cinebench will crash sometimes
Seriously considering trying my luck with one more and returning this one... I don't normally return something for being a **** clocker, but it's just a bit of a let-down.
Though I know in the real world I won't really see much diff... going by cinebench the 4.75 on this is only around 3% slower. But still not sure I can even call this stable at 1.392V yet.
If I keep it, is probably going to have to be around 4.7 at 1.34V.
Can't be bothered sticking in my Z68 board. Don't think the Z77 damaged.
OEM
Do i have any grounds to return it?
I'm not sure its worth the faff
if you look around on forums etc - you'd be lucky to get any better tbh
how old is it, you dont tell them what you have done you just say its unstable BSOD'ing all the time and your having to up the volts to maintain stability.
look at buying there insurance for £15 it covers all aspects of overclocking and lasts for three years.

You could take the IHS off and replace the TIM? Worth a try...Am i right?![]()

lol
Yeah it's ironic that I flipped the chip I didn't really need to (and ki9lled it) and that I will under no circumstances flip the one that could use it![]()
should have just stayed with the 3930Kmuch more fun.
