Ebay seller charges gone up?

I guess most of you guys don't remember the days before eBay, putting stuff for sale in your local newsagent or paper at a knock down price. eBay is hugely successful because as a service it is worth it if you have stuff to sell.

As is the MM.

Yes, ridiculous fees now. Most of the time I sell to people if they make me an offer as long as they pay direct to PayPal and not through eBay :D

I make a lot of offers to people selling stuff on eBay. It used to be somewhat risky, and left you in a bit of a mess if the seller messed you around, but with PayPal you end up getting the same buyer protection as you would have from eBay for a bit less.

I find I can often get a sizable discount by offering to buy outside of eBay, usually 20% or more since they don't have eBay fees to pay, it's the same as them giving a 10% discount.

13.4% + 20p PayPal charge when I did my calculations a bit ago. I honestly only seel there if my stuff doesn't sell on here or AVForums. Rip off merchants, not worth bothering with eBay anymore. I wish Google would put out a similar service, I have no idea why they haven't to be honest.

It's ridiculous! If the seller had a decent amount of protection then they could justify it but the entire process is a lottery.

really surprised there is no alternative to ebay, same sort of setup but cheaper. They hold the monopoly for this kind of thing. I thought google had plans to open google marketplace and use their google payment system but that never kicked off.

Should have put the price £75 higher :D

Yep, could do but then it would'nt sell as business sellers would price me out by selling lower.

I came to an 'agreement' with the buyer ;) and got my ebay fee refunded. Won't be selling anything over £50 on there again and will just mainly buy stuff.

Ebay have now priced private sellers out of their site and are making big money out of people who are trying to sell their items to get a little bit of cash in these hard times.
