Im thinking of an mx5, 20y/o with 0no claims but I can get insurance for about £1500 which I dont think is too bad.

The question really is are there any cars around 60miles of Leicester that are alright?

Will have to be 1.6 due to insurance costs though.

Its not really a case of me needing a car either....more that I want one.
Budget is 1k for the car, lower the better to a point. (Providing it isn't a shed).

This:

or this

but I notice the 2nd one is the 90bhp version.

Don't buy a mk2 MX5 for a grand, you can get a much tidier mk1. Coming from a mk1 owner who had the same budget as you :)

Also, that second one is a 115bhp version - 90bhp versions were from 1993 onwards (AFAIK).

Thanks for the advice! So mk1 is the one I want.
Auto trader said its the 90bhp one thats why I said that =/ guess its wrong.
What does the 2nd look like? Terrible or ok?

The second is an import by the looks of it, so make sure you do a quote for an import. I found it made a big difference for me, but for others it doesn't

How can you tell its an import?
I guess that'll be the eunos then?

edit: typing its reg for a quote on gocompare it says its the mx5 cabriolet, so the uk one.

£1,492.48 for the 2nd one :D

Square registration plate on the back and I am not too sure whether I have ever seen that colour on a UK car

That'll be an import as it has aircon - as far as I'm aware no UK car came with aircon. I don't think that's a standard Mazda colour..

Hmmm that's confusing because it doesn't say eunos when I type the reg into the website.

Are there any other decent looking mk1s around?

Most of them don't, the insurance database lists most of them as MX5s, but insurance companies get arsey if/when you claim if it's not declared properly.

Have a look on http://www.mx5nutz.com/forum - there's a for sale section there.

Its good to be honest :o it a learning curve for me so great to have feedback.
I couldn't find manyUK spec on that mx5 forum for sale in 1.6 guise.

Are there any decent ones on PH?

Don't know, best look :p

Try getting insurance quotes for both a UK and a Eunos - I found there was sod all difference, some find it doubles the premium. Suck it and see :)
