That people pay a premium to live there never ceases to amaze me.

Many do so because they get paid a premium that matches it.

As I've stated before, by gf moved here for the same role she was doing in West Sussex. She doubled her salary, but her cost of living only rose 40%.

Logged onto to Facebook today to find a friend from London was attacked by some nutter at the train station last night.

Obviously this kind of thing can happen to anyone, anywhere but I do tend to notice far more of London based mates with 'I was involved in a/just saw a crime' statuses than ones based elsewhere.

To be honest.. I often work nights for my job in the west end and I feel safer walking through there at 1am than I would walking through any small/medium sized town. Maybe that's just because there's always people around though.

I'm basing it on my friend's general statuses.


It could just be that they update their statuses more, or are more upfront about it; it's obviously not scientific. Also the riots played a big part as I have friends in Tottenham (my best mate has his house burnt down).

But I would suspect that even taking population into account London would have a higher crime rate per head than most other cities (note I said 'most' and not all before you come back with some stats that show Manchester is worse or something).

Weird how pretty much all the violent murders and serial killings happen in other parts of the country. Or at least the ones that end up on the news seem to.

I know a fair few people who live in & around the London area who get no premium / "London loading" whatsoever!

Each to his or her own, but it's not for me.

I feel safe in London. Anywhere else with a non-existent minority ethnic population, I feel like I'm subjected to racist abuse or discrimination.

I rather live abroad than live anywhere outside London.

I work in Central London so I mix with all sorts of people on a daily basis. It's one of the main reasons I love my job. And the hot European women in the summer of course.

I have 3 different bus routes I can take to work 5 minutes walk from my house, and they come every 5 minutes. Then I have 2 different Underground routes I can take to work.

I think this says more about your paranoia than anything else. Whilst I would never pretend that racists don't exist to imply as you've done that anywhere outside London is a hotbed of BNP rhetoric is a little insulting in my opinion.
