Looking through the sales I see Hard Reset: Extended Edition is on 75% discount at £2.50,

but retailers are still selling this for 20 quid, thats one hell of a discount

is it any good?

Wow I'm very glad I only paid £15 for Max Payne 3. It really is not a very good game. In fact its a 10 hour cut scene with about 4 hours of gameplay kicking in occasionally. Admittedly those 4 hours are good fun but they come in such short bursts. Watching an unskippable 7 minute cutscene to then be allowed to press forward (and no other button) for 30 seconds to move along a ledge, then kicking into another cutscene is ridiculous.

I do wish that you are wrong, but I fear that you may be pretty spot on with that gameplay:cutscene ratio. I am pretty disappointed, but I guess I should have expected it after reading reviews.

I'm around 1hr in and 70% has probably been cutscenes so far. Rather frustrating, especially when you feel that you could have played and be able to control Max in most of the cutscenes

What are the thoughts on The Walking Dead? I listen to the Gamers With Jobs podcast and they loved it, but I was just wondering what the general consensus is. I have DayZ but that's obviously quite an open free-roaming Zombie survival game. The Walking Dead fits in with the rest of the Walking Dead universe, telling a story from survivors. The Gamers With Jobs chaps thought it was absolutely engrossing and really tough to play at times with the decisions that need to be made. Anyone here playing it?

I've done well this sale:

Just Cause 2: £3.49
Torchlight: £3.24
------------------------
Total: NOT ENOUGH!

Nothing else i've really fancied, to be honest. Wouldn't mind titan quest. :)

Yes, its a good looking game, and very challenging on the higher difficulty, can be completed in 4 hours though, without the DLC. Linear shooter but a very colorful and immersive one i found. Definintely worth the punt.

What are the thoughts on The Walking Dead??

I've played the first 2 episodes. Very good game in my opinion. Probably not to everyones tastes though. It uses a lot of QTE events, especially during encounters with walkers. Its not really meant to be an action orientated game though. Its more heavily focused on character and story development. All the decisions you make during the game to carry on from episode to episode and can affect what characters are left alive and how people react to you ingame. Definetely worth playing, especially at price its at now.

I'm sorry rich storytelling isn't your thing, maybe you should play Tetris.

The funny part is that there's actually 4 hours worth of cutscenes in 15+ hours of total gametime, so it's the exact opposite of your exaggerated claim.

Story driven games such as Max Payne 3 are where it's at for me, love this type of game and have no problem sitting through extended cut scenes, I'd imagine it would pretty difficult to tell a decent story with depth, without them tbh! It seems like the ADHD crowd should avoid Max Payne 3, stick to COD!

If you search youtube for zackscottgames he has a play through of the first 2 instalments. I thought it seemed good at first but when I saw dayz realised TWD might lack involvement.

I'm sorry you consider Max Payne 3 to be rich storytelling. Seriously that concerns me as it has got to have one of the most contrived, hackneyed and plodding plots of any game I have played in recent memory. And I played Metal Gear Solid 4.

In any case you completely misunderstood the point I was making - I didn't complain about the plot in the first place, I complained about the ratio of gameplay to cutscenes. Having a cutscene almost every time you walk through a door (and that is not an exageration) is immersion breaking to say the least and actually harms the storytelling. You only need to look back to Half Life or Bioshock to see you can tell a very compelling story without ever resorting to cutscenes.

Can you provide a source for your claim that the cutscenes are limited to 4 hours. It feels dramatically longer than that to me and the other poster (who felt it closer to 70%) above. Even if you are correct to have c25% of your game as a cutscene says something.
