Amusing Parking Dispute

At home of course :p
At my work, the shop next door to us has slapped large warning notices in his window stating "NO parking in front of shop - clamping in operation, release fee £80"

Now the funny thing is that it's a normal public road outside his shop, i.e. normal public highway, and there are NO road markings at all, no single or double yellow lines. In otherwords, legal to park any time of the day or night.

As a result, I parked my car there, lol'd at his sign and went to work. She later put a notice on my car (have CCTV footage to show it was her) which said "Please do not park here or the council will clamp you".

Again I lol'd at this, but thought no more of it.
Today my work colleague parked there, and then a tow truck turned up (one of the council contracted ones which can lift a car). We all ran out to confront the towers and blooming heck, they were utterly, utterly clueless.

They said a complaint had been made we were blocking access and therefore they had to tow the car. We asked what access we were blocking since it's a shop and the towers simply said they were doing what they had been asked to do and remove the obstruction.

We again asked what we were obstructing, and they tried to say it was between us and the person who made the complaint, and they were only doing their job, e.t.c - in otherwords they weren't backing down.

We pointed out they were on CCTV and that we would send them the bill for taxi fares to collect the car, plus loss of earnings from the employee having to leave work early (unpaid) to collect the car, and by towing the car they were agreeing to pay all expenses. At this point they finally gave us the phone number of their manager.

Phoned the manager who told us the call had been reported as we were blocking a driveway and the owner needed to get the car out - we told him there was no driveway, only a shop - the manager then laughed at that and told the towers to leave the car alone.

So, car still there, but seriously, what a complete load of hassle - don't understand why some people have such an issue over parking.
We confronted the shop owner who said she won't do it to any of our cars, but their problem was people parking there all day to take the train into london. Think she's missing the point that people can park there.

idiot.

EDIT - Pics have been added to post 19 below.

Should have let them tow it and then taken the shop owner to court - ultimately it would be their fault for falsely reporting it

I was just in disbelief that the council sends out such poorly trained individuals who were just going to blindly tow a car without clocking on that it was perfectly legally parked.

Jobs worth! They were sent there to complete a job, and they wanted to do it, and **** off.

Sounds like the shop owner is fed up of people parking in front of the shop all day when obviously they would like it free for customers to park up.

Still, public road so sod all they can do about it

I had a similar run in with some silly old fool when I parked infront of his "bespoke" kitchen shop where I used to live, I was polite up until the point he started swearing at me then I basically told him to "do one".

Why have you all assumed that it is HER shop ?

Interesting ;)

Especially when OP clearly states 'warning notices in his window'

Hmmmm

God knows what this thing is.

Here you go - car was parked where the red van is in front of the carpet shop

Also, a screenshot from our CCTV - it's the blue car they are after

Oh, and if anyone is wondering about the dropped curb, the carpet shop used to be a garage, but the garage was knocked down and replaced with a shop.
