Steer clear of second-hand BMWs

BMW,s are usually driven by idiots, and are the cars always breaking the speed limit, and so are quite badly thrashed by people who "THINK" they are good drivers, the ones who take the rev counter to the red line before changing gear, stay clear of any second hand car which is referred to as a "drivers car" they are usually trouble.

There's always one.

That seems like the most pointless survey ever.
TEN MOST COMMON FAULTS
Minor faults:

Washer/wipers
Lights
Battery
Suspension
Other non-engine electrics
Air conditioning
Exhaust or emission control system
Electric windows/sunroof/mirrors
Brakes

Thanks?

I don't see what this article actually says.

It's only quizzed 40,000 people when there are what? 20 million plus cars on uk roads?
So not even a single percent of drivers were quizzed.

Edit 26.5 million cars on the road at the end of 2011.

So a worthless survey with worthless results.

Thats how sampling works though atbpx, you don't need to question 26.5 million car owners in order to get a representative result provided your sampling is appropriate.

What a crock, I am not a BMW fan (purely personal styling opinion) however they are well known for reliability and build quality.

More likely they are off the road because people can't afford to service them and repair them properly.

Steer clear of the Daily Mail would be my advice, quite possibly the worst of all the tabloids as it feels it was born to a better standard as do so many of its readers who are just as bad. Spiteful rag.

To be fair to the Mail I wouldn't buy an used 3 series and expect it to be all that reliable, although luckily most of mine have been.

Exactly, obviously is a poorly written article but I thought it was common knowledge that modern BM's generally aren't that reliable? They're so damn complicated.

Looking at the comments someone has got a 9 year old 328i. Is that possible?

No, it's not. I took that to mean it was, at the time, 9 years old. Meaning it could have been in 2009.

328i was discontinued in 2000 in the E46. It returned in the E90 but not for the UK market, where it didn't return until 2012 with the F30 328i.

It's strange, Joe Public has a misconception that BMW's are exceptionally reliable cars and in Joe Public's tiny little mind this explains in some ways why BMW's are perceived to be an expensive and prestigious marque.

When in fact, most sensible people wouldn't purchase a used BMW without an approved warranty to back it up. Because things will go wrong and when they do they will ultimately be expensive to fix.

But yeah - Daily Fail so whatever, hardly surprising.

Could it be an import?
