You'll never see a poor vet !!!

5k for a dog hip replacement isnt that bad.

An uncemented total hip for a human can cost 2+k in metal work alone. Add in theatre time, operating equipment..etc and it really adds up.

Also, the R&D for dog hip replacements must be higher for the number sold a year.

Tell your vet you have no money to pay but can't bear to see the animal in pain......see how many of your "animal loving" vets help the animal for free!

You'll soon see which ones are in it for the coin :D

Then you can work on compiling a list of.........

mechanics which fix cars "for the thought of gettin' you home or to work",
plumbers which fix leaks "for the sake of the wasted water",
dentist which fix teeth "'cause they just love gums",
and burger flippers at mcdonalds who work there "for the benefit of all fat, cow-**** eating retards everywhere!"

the point of a job is for money right?

don't mean they aint a rip off though for the cost my brother paid to have his dogs leg amputated i could have bought a pure bred with champion bloodlines (not that i would as show dogs are **** its all about performance bred dogs)

It's not a rip off if you compare it to other sectors, don't pay for treatment or get insurance, its not expensive at all. You and your brother are just mugs for not having insurance.

Also, why are show dogs "****"?
Instead you want a performance dog so it can jump hoops and walk up/down ramps?

Great. So every vet on £30k per year which is just over £20k take home should spend all they take home pay every year to do four hip replacements free of charge?

My gf used to loads of stuff and not charge for it. You ring your vet up for advice? it's free over the phone. A solicitor would send you a bill for £100 for a half hour phone conversation.

And in your above case they would put the animal down. Don;t get me wrong, some vets do take on hopeless cases. My gf took on a horse with a serious heart condition which the owners couldn;t afford to treat and kept it for 22 years and looked after it and paid for the drugs it needed.

One of those times where unfortunately for the dog in the OPs case if it belonged to me it would be being put down.

5k+ to have a hip replacement done on a dog? These people know how to milk you sensitive types dont they?

vet bills are disgusting... there should be an nhs vet service, whereby EVERYONE pays something like an additional £5 a month in tax and this pays for vet treatment.

You not read the post? He has insurance. He probably pays £5 to £10 a month and all the total cost of £6000+ is been paid by insurance. Your comment is like buying a BMW 7 series and not taking out the warranty as "if something serious goes wrong which need £500 spent I will just scrap it"

Yeah get that past the voters who will then claim they don;t have animals so why should they pay for middle class people to have free vet bills?

Vet bills are not disgusting at all, have you not heard of insurance? Also you expect everyone to pay for everyone else's animals? Its bad enough we have to pay so much into the NHS that gets wasted on such petty things.

My point is a general one, I have cats and dogs and don't pay per insurance on any of them, and in the event of an extortionate vet bill or illness that requires expensive long term treatment, they would be put down.

You car analogy doesn't hold up,in the case of the car, I have spent 10k on the BMW to buy it, I pay for warranty to protect my outlay so it lasts as long as possible.

In the case of the dog you've spent a couple of hundred quid, it goes wrong and you are asked to pay 5k to keep it going, 4 or 5 times the actual worth of the operation being performed.
