Is it worth waiting until the next Xbox specs are announced before buying a new gaming PC?

I really want to splash out soon at overlockers and bag myself a beast of a gaming machine, I have a budget of £1000, but is there any sense in waiting until the next Xbox specs are revealed?

I'm currently gaming using Steam on my Samsung R580 laptop but it obviously pales in comparison to what a dedicated rig could do.

Great forum, looking forward to reading all the threads and getting into PC gaming in a big way again (last time I was into it I was playing 'Giants Citizen Kabuto')

Computer is the way to go imo, the Devs have already released a statement posted over on Maxconsole that "Don't expect much improvement on the next gens graphics" that was enough for me to decided.
Up date your Pc an wait 5-6 months before buying next gen console, give enough time get some good games out an fix any bugs.

Oh sorry, I should have been clearer. I have no intention of buying the next Xbox, I just want to at least match it's graphical grunt with a PC. I know that Xbox games will be optimised but it seems it might make sense at least hitting the same spec?

It wont take anything special to match console graphics :)

We have no idea of that. PC games have not pushed hardware much for many years now, largely due to the lack of any console upgrade. As soon as the new Xbox is announced, I expect to see a number of games that require PC hardware upgrades to run well.

I am waiting, but it depends what your specs are now. Mine are more than enough to keep me going until the new consoles are released.

Thanks guys, yes I'm pretty stoked about getting a new gaming PC. How do you guys decide between AMD processor, or Intel, and Nvidia cards or Radeon etc? I've just read that the new Nvidia Kepler card runs the Unreal 4 demo, with just one card, but those things currently costs a fortune!

Not really, as Sony and Microsoft will never stick a graphic chip with 225W or 300W TDP in their console. The performance of the graphic chip they use will always be limited by the max power consumption. Nothing will change that unless AMD specifically design graphic chip which the architecture completely different from the architecture of graphic cards and can somehow miraculously deliver 7870 performance with 7750 power consumption for console.

Depending on your financial situation and assuming you currently own a 360, then get a new PC, wait 6-12 months and then get a new xbox when they are significantly cheaper than when new.

However it doesnt take a brilliant card to fun high games on consoles since their cards are specifically designed to use a single non changeable system. A console version of a 6850 would be like a PC version of a 680 really.

I'm in the same boat as you. Not sure if to buy now or wait. I don't really care for console games but i can't deny they have a huge influence on a lot of pc games with companies now favouring cross platform games.
Can't find any juicy info on the next gen consoles. I know they'll still be in 1080p land and will probably embrace 3D.
Their release and haswell's are making the wait painfull. Will prbably fold before either's release :(

The next Xbox is rumoured to be using the 6670 GPU. You have to remember that the original xbox and the 360 are actually all based on PC kit. I have suspected for sometime that MS will actually use the AMD Llano APUs for the console but we shall have to wait and see.

I'm not expecting the next consoles to be any better than my current HTPC if im honest. I have a AMD 555BE @4ghz and a nvidia 460 GPU @850-900mhz, it without a doubt makes the current consoles obselete, my xbox just gathers dust now. £1000 will get you much better kit than what i'm running for a HTPC and it will last you for quite some time indeed.

Don't bother waiting. I'm assuming you are thinking that the release of next gen consoles will reduce the price of the PC or something? Chances are it wont, a £1000 pc I believe will surpass the next gen consoles easily, unless Sony/Microsoft have something big up their sleeves.. Although even then to upgrade a PC to that wouldn't be that expensive.

BTW, I recently just upgraded to a ~£1000 machine from a Samsung R580 and it is the best buy I've ever made! it's TONS better.

As far as choosing AMD/Intel and AMD/NVIDIA, generally Intel processors are superior. The choice between an AMD/NVIDIA depends on how much you decide to spend on a card. Chances are for a £1000 spec you will be going for a AMD 7850.

No, I don't think it is. I reckon a £1000 computer now would beat the next generation of consoles power wise.

A £500 computer will beat the next gen never mind £1000, they nearly always use old tech but designed to fit an work in consoles.
I know the 360 is having a Nvidia graphics an a ram upgrade from 256 or 512 can't remember what it is now.
Its like i posted earlier "the Devs have already released a statement posted over on Maxconsole that "Don't expect much improvement on the next gens graphics" so by the sounds of that i'd take it that there just bring the next gen up date mainly hard ware wise instead of performance although it obviously will be a better performer compared to the 360.

i have been a console man for as long as i can remember lol, i have a ps3 and a 360 hooked up in my room. i have always wanted to get a gaming pc just because you can build a far superior.
