Hey i need some advice, I got second cousins living in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney and my Girlfriend's father has immigrated over there 10 years ago. Would this mean me and my girlfriend has a good chance of being able to become residents as well?

Britons are special cases in Australia, so there is some favouritism involved due to the commonwealth.

I imagine it would be fine.

Sadly, they won't let you in if you don't know the difference between emigrate and immigrate.

Immigrate and Emigrate should only really be used when you include both, from and to nations.

Migrate is if you use one nation in a sentence, i believe.

Would it be sensible to apply for a 1 years working visa first and if its right for us then maybe looking at a perminant resident?

Just found this site

Yes. I've aunts, uncles and cousins in Aus, but if I wanted to go out I'd have to do the working visa. You can get a two year working visa and they have you do seasonal work as well. You can get an employment sponsorship if you find work that can extend your working time to four years. Which is plenty of time to decide whether or not it's for you.

You need enough "points" by having qualifications and/or experiances in areas the country needs.

on topic, i am also looking to emigrate in OZ, my profession is in the SOL schedule 1 and had very positive initial contact from the embassy here...but i would like to know from anyone there how are crime levels, racism etc. Thanks in advance

You can get around that if you have a job and the company is willing to sponsor you.

Is Australia the same as Canada though? Whereby they have to prove to the Government they have been unable to give the role to a citizen, thus its incredibly difficult.

It looks like you can get a 1 year holiday visa if you have no dependents, are under 30 and have some money in the bank to support yourself when you go there. I might consider it, i only have a few years left for that type of visa.

I emigrated to NZ a couple of years ago and the commonwealth helps you not these days down this way! It's seen as old fashioned, out of date and the UK is how not to run a country. You are assessed on points and you get more points for being able to talk English as a first language but not for being British!

As far as I'm aware it hasn't got any major problems with crime and racism
