The 680 prices are downright stupid. What's up with that? I just took a look after ages. It's more expensive now than it was at launch. Where does NVIDIA get off charging that much for a card that is, what, 5% faster than the 7970 overall? It's also cheaper to manufacture and is over a £100 more expensive.
The 670 is priced quite reasonably but the 680 and 690 pricing is nuts.
 
Agreed, I've sort of been a bit miffed with the 680 prices recently, to the point where I'm now put off upgrading - might have to settle for a 670. Last week EVGA SC GTX 680 was £389.99, now its £409.99. What gives..?
 
im looking at upgrading as i am awaiting my shipment tomorrow with my new CPU etc. everywhere i read it all says the same go for a GTX670 (none reference) as some perform the same as a 680 for £100 less.
 
Come on, nVidia always charges silly money for their products. You could call it "nVidia tax". It's just one of the many things use use to try to convince people that they are "the best".
 
You could just get a 670 for £100~ less that does 3% less performance just saying. plus Nvidia rule the GPU market as intel rules the CPU market. leading competitor always has their prices the way they want it and they should do that as well (albeit maybe a little bit more... smartly would suffice)

Except that this gen the pricing was dictated by AMD first, who decided to stack the 7950 and 7970 around or above the already overpriced GTX580, and then when GTX680 launch it matches 7970 price. It was until then that when 7970 couldn't get a clear win (if at all) over the GTX680 that they decided to slash the pricing of 7950 and 7970.

True I suppose. But Nvidia is pretty much the leading competitor of GPU's etc.

True, but they were quite a card for the money, the 670 is shockingly expensive for what you get card wise, there's hardly anything on the PCB, it's why I am holding onto my 480, I refuse to pay these ridiculous prices for such a small card that is obviously over priced by an even bigger margin than previous generations.

Well yeah, the 7970 was and still is a silly price, but nVidia have always priced their cards higher regardless of the actual performance difference.
 
Yeah it is overpriced, but what stops me from buying one isn't the price (well a little) it's the fact that this " 680 " isn't the card they originally intended to release, It is infact the " 660 " rebranded as a " 680 " So no money from me! lol :)

That was only until 400 series though. Last gen the GTX560Ti and GTX570 were priced accordingly to its rival...hell, the GTX570 was even faster and cheaper than the 6970!

I think they probably decided to stop their approach of thinking that people will willingly pay the "Nvidia premium", after the GTX470 and GTX480 barely shifted any at their ridiculous overpriced launch price.

They just look more expensive now as the ati 7xxx prices have settled to fairly decent levels. Even the 7870 looks a decent price in its bracket now. The 670 is still quite well positioned but the premium for the 680 is too much.

Looks to me like amd's price gouging period is over, hopefully nvidias will be over soon (690 not withstanding).

If they're first to the next generation again then I would anticipate it won't be over at all. :(

They're both as bad as each other in that respect.
 
I personally think they are having trouble producing the chips to run as intended and are binning too many. Hence why the price is remaining high and yet the 670 is reasonably priced.

Just my thoughts though.
