Is it worth waiting until the next Xbox specs are announced before buying a new gaming PC?

Im the other way around, i barely play any games on pc, and probably wont need to upgrade my pc for years, but i will quite possibly get the new xbox if it comes with some decwnt rts games amd a good way of controlling them
 
Just get your pc now and upgrade if you need to but I don't think you will need to as although a new console blows an old pc and the previous console out of the water, I'm pretty sure a new pc out at the time of the 360 or PS3 was still better and if not, not far off.
 
Thanks guys, really appreciate the advice. Now I need to start thinking about what PC to get! Do most of you build your own from kits bought on Overlockers? Or do you buy the ones that Overclockers build ready to go?

What do you need for your rig, the whole thing? Case and all internals, monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard, etc? Do you have any parts already?

Than others and myself can help you spec a rig. :)
 
Next gen? You mean that thing for £300 that has tech based on pc tech from about 3 years prior to its release? Hm worth as much as far as you could throw the thing plus they are just meh at best. I find it a shame developers aren't aiming to utilise pc specs fully.. if they did then PC games would trounce consoles with out even trying.

Hey thanks for the suggestions, really great stuff. Ok I have two Samsung SyncMaster BX2335 monitors at the moment, hoping they will be good enough for gaming, they certainly look the business for work!

I have a surround sound system too that I would like to use, it's got an optical input which I use from my 360, guessing that's the best way to go for the best sound.

The Intel choice sounds good, especially as I really love a few games that I own for my Wii and I could possibly use Dolphin to run them in a higher resolution, that would be a nice bonus but PC gaming is my main reason for building a new machine.

Since I have monitors, keyboard and mice ready to go, and a DVD rewriter then that shaves a few pounds off the bill that I can put towards a card, like some of you suggested, a Radeon perhaps.

As far as choosing AMD/Intel and AMD/NVIDIA, generally Intel processors are superior. The choice between an AMD/NVIDIA depends on how much you decide to spend on a card. Chances are for a £1000 spec you will be going for a AMD 7850.

Just double checked and it was around 880, but i already had my mouse and windows. With a 1 grand budget I'd chuck in a 128gb SSD in addition to the below.

Should I just dive in and get the kit, and then work out later how to put it all together?

I've replaced drives, graphics cards, power supplies, RAM before but never put one together from scratch. Looking forward to it though!
 
Not really as that card (if released) would easily be over half your budget. Along with those cards are never worth the money.

SSD doesnt make too much of a diffewrence in gaming, it makes load screens quicker, but thats it. However it makes the world of difference to daily use like start up, shut down, browsing and general use. I wouldnt advise to buy a pc without an SSD.

p.s. the pc listed by Sparx in post #28 is pretty nice, and within budget once removing the mouse/keyboard etc. u said u already got :)
